- Glamping site with cabins in a secluded clearing next to a lake
- A 10-minute drive to Busserolles in Périgord-Limousin regional park
- Barbecue, kitchen and hammocks; boat and angling gear available
The clue’s in the name with Covert Cabin – this glamping site made up of well-equipped huts is hidden away in a clearing next to a secluded lake in the Périgord-Limousin Natural Regional Park.
If you’re seeking a change of scenery, the units are kitted out with all the amenities needed for an off-grid and eco-friendly hol in the Dordogne: there’s a stove for heating, a mini kitchen with a fridge to chill beers and a shower for freshening up. Necessities like tea, coffee, a bottle of wine (yep, that counts as an essential…) and cooking supplies are also included in your stay, plus bed linen, towels, toilet paper, toiletries and cleaning products.
Outside each unit is a terrace with a barbecue, table and chairs; have a breather here, chug across the water on the site’s boat, use the angling gear for a spot of fishing or stretch out in one of the hammocks for a nap.
While it might be a struggle to leave such an excellent setup, roaming further around the area most definitely has its rewards. Head out in the regional park for some canoeing on the rivers, wandering around flea markets, exploring caves and strolling in the streets of lovely villages. Swimming lakes with natural beaches are in the area too (have a chat with friendly Covert Cabin owners Bob and Diana for more details on these as well as directions).
Intending to stick around on site pretty much the whole hol long? There are books, games and drawing materials to keep you busy. A small ‘boxed store’ filled with basic items is a lifesaver if the shops have closed before you arrive at the park for the first time.

Local attractions
To venture off site without veering too far, have a gander at the Piégut-Pluviers tower – formerly part of a castle wrecked by Richard Lionheart in 1199 – in the village of the same name or set off for a circular stroll around the banks of the Grand Etang de St-Estèphe lake (both 10 minutes’ drive).
Drop by the wobbly Roc Branlant rock in the area too – it’s accessible by car or via an hour and a half's forest walk from the cabins if you’d prefer to use your feet.
For a glimpse of grander structures, journey over to castles with fairytale turrets like Château de La Rochefoucauld (30 minutes) and the medieval defensive fortress of Château de Bourdeilles (45 minutes). Underground tours more your thing? Drive south and peer at the prehistoric paintings in Villars Cave (45 minutes).
