- Leafy rural site five minutes’ drive from Tuhala in central Estonia
- Witch’s Well five minutes’ drive and the Viking Village 10 minutes
- Grass meadow shaded by spruce trees; shared kitchen, firepit and sauna
Looking for a peaceful base for exploring central Estonia? You’ve found it at Kuuserva Nature Stay, a family-friendly – well, everyone-friendly really – site five minutes’ drive from the ancient village of Tuhala in Harju County. Here you can pitch your tent in a scenic meadow sheltered by mature spruce trees, look forward to vibrant sunsets on clear evenings and enjoy the long white nights of a northern-hemisphere summer. You can also plan local walks and bike rides through the scenic fens and deciduous bog forest of the Nabala-Tuhala Nature Reserve (10 minutes’ drive).
Facilities include an open kitchen with all the basics in place, an outdoor shower with reliably hot water and a firepit surrounded by up-cycled seating – probably the best place on site to catch those stunning sunsets. There’s also a small playground on the edge of the camping field, and if you’re not feeling quite relaxed enough at any point during your stay, you can book a session in the woodfired sauna.
The site is hosted by an Estonian-Filipino family. They are there to offer help if you need them, and equally well will stay invisible if that’s what you prefer. They just ask that you respect other guests while on their site.

Local attractions
Being only half an hour away by car, lively and historic Tallinn makes a great day out for all the family. Among many, many options, you can explore the cobbled lanes and souvenir shops selling hand-knitted woollens or hand-carved wooden bowls in the fortified medieval Old Town, marvel at the ornate onion domes of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and see award-winning photography at Fotografiska.
When you prefer to stay local, the limestone wetlands of Nabala-Tuhala Nature Reserve (10 minutes’ drive) offer up endless hiking and biking trails. The gentle Tuhala Karst Trail leads to swallow holes, underground rivers and one of the region’s stranger attractions – the renowned Witch’s Well in Tuhala (five minutes), which regularly floods and is steeped in legend.
The Viking Village theme park (10 minutes) is one of the biggest family attractions in Estonia. Here you can time travel back to a 10th-century wooden village for the day, dress up in armour and brandish shields, try your hand at traditional sports like axe or spear throwing, and watch historic catapults at work.
