- Beachfront spot 15 minutes’ walk from Pavones Point
- Well-based for surfing the left-point wave, fishing and horse riding
- Dog-friendly; barbecue, cooking stove and seasonal fruits and plants
Pavones' popular left-point wave has pulled many to this part of Costa Rica. Whether you’re heading to these parts to tackle the wave (which reaches up to 300 metres) for yourself, witness it first-hand or get stuck into other sea-themed activities, Pineapple Creek Camping is a sweet place to set down on the beachfront.
Sink your teeth into the edible goodies that are planted around the retreat, including fruit, herbs and plants. There’s a food prep area, a barbecue and a cooking stove with gas available for the wannabe chefs. Otherwise, stroll over to the scores of restaurants and beachfront bars in Pavones, 20 minutes’ walk away.
Fresh food consumed, you should have plenty of energy for this lively Costa Rica destination’s many possible activities. Will it be offshore fishing, fishing from the beach, horse riding, birdwatching or surfing? There’s a small creek mouth at the beach with spring water, and a picnic spot on the beach for more peaceful days.
Secured by a fence, Pineapple Creek Camping is the sort of place where it’s easy to unwind. There are full facilities to fall back on, including restrooms and a shower, along with a splendid tilapia pond and a wading pool for some peaceful scenery.

Local attractions
With miles of beaches nearby, all that remains is to pick a sandy spot for your precious unwinding time. Might that be Pavones or Playa Zancudo (50 minutes’ drive), with its black sand, almond trees and excellent surf and fishing spots?
Or perhaps the big blue is just too inviting? After all, there are humpback whales, spotted dolphins and whale sharks out there, as well as sea turtles. You might spot one (or more) on a whale-watching tour from Pavones Point (15 minutes).
If you’re eyeing up some excursions too, one excellent idea is to take a tour of the Guaymi Indian Reserve in the Reserva Indigena de Osa (three hours and 10 minutes). It’s home to an indigenous tribe who have cattle farms and crops like coffee beans, corn and rice.
Closer to your new home, the Punta Banco Beach Waterfall (20 minutes) is simply a splendid adventure. You might spot monkeys in the trees on the way to this 40-foot waterfall.
