  • Site next to a complex of mineral baths and pools on the Uruguay River
  • A 25-minute drive to Palmitos’ main square
  • Snack bar and barbecue grill areas with fridges and cooking stations
If you’ve always wanted to lord it up in Brazil, Camping Ilha Redonda’s your spot.... bordering the site of a thermal bath complex first developed by an aristocrat way back in 1907. Avid fans of aquatic-based hols are definitely sorted here – the park’s also on the banks of the Uruguay river in the State of Santa Catarina, and the sanitised hot water in its bathrooms flows from the area’s mineral springs. Swims aplenty are bound to make you mighty hungry, and if so the site has covered barbecue kiosks with fridges, tables and grills to prep meals made with bits and bobs from the park shop. The snack bar will also keep you well fed if you’re not up for cooking and a supermarket's a couple of minutes’ walk away. It’s around the same distance to the swimming pools of Balneário Ilha Redonda, the aforementioned waterpark you can spy from Camping Ilha Redonda’s grounds. Head over to do a few lengths in the Olympic swimming pool or just rest in the whirlpool, immersion baths and heated thermal pools (open from June to September). For kids, a 27-metre waterslide is at the waterpark to whizz down. Had too much sun during splashtime? Back at the park, the whole site’s mostly covered, so you can rest in the shade while you ponder pootling around Palmitos later on. This town's less than a 25-minute drive away and has a couple of key attractions to check out including an old square (Praca Carlos Culmey) for people watching and the Elmiro Wagner Municipal Museum.

Local attractions

When you’re not bathing at the mineral springs or catching fish from the Uruguay River for dins, you can find out about the local area’s experience with colonisation in the 1930s and 1940s at the Casa da Memória de São Carlos museum a 40-minute drive away. Once you've thoroughly explored Santa Catarina, it might be time to move on to your next destination in Brazil: it’s a seven-hour drive from here to the unmissable Iguaçu Falls, the world’s biggest waterfall system, on the border with Argentina, and nine hours to the beaches of Florianopolis on the eastern coast in another direction. Alternatively, guests can check out and head west into Paraguay or south into Uruguay to tick a couple more countries off the list on their tour of South America.
