  • Quiet family-friendly park on the edge of Blankenberge
  • Bruges half an hour by train; under an hour's drive to Plopsaland
  • A 50-metre walk from the beach; bike hire and maps available on site
Beach holiday in Blankenberge? By the beach is exactly where you’ll be at Vakantiepark Beachside – this family-friendly holiday park is a mere 50 metres from the beach, the dunes and the sea, so you’ll be able to stroll out onto the sand whenever you like during your stay. The seafront aspect of the location is fabulous, of course – but so is the fact that the park is just on the edge of town, giving you plenty of quiet green space on site while also putting you within easy reach of town-centre amenities. A walk of 10-15 minutes gets you to Blankenberge’s pier, restaurants, a supermarket, shops, a sports centre, a bowling hall and attractions including the Sea Life Centre and the Art Nouveau buildings around the town centre. If you don't want to walk, reach it by bicycle in under five minutes, by car in two minutes, or take the coastal tram which stops right in front of the entrance to the site. Getting around the surrounding area is probably best done by bike – there’s a good bike path running along the seafront, and you can pick up a network of countryside paths nearby too. Bikes can be hired on site if you can’t bring your own, and there are maps available to help you find the best local routes (with walking options available too). For easy trips to other destinations (Bruges being a particular favourite), there are tram stops, bus stops and a railway station. Back on the site there are various facilities available to help you have a comfortable and relaxed stay – these include a launderette, a washing-up area, a wifi service and a bathroom block.

What customers say

Great spot near the beach & Blankenberge's shops. Clean, modern washrooms and friendly staff are highlights. While some find pitches small/uneven, others enjoy spacious, quiet sites. Perfect for exploring the coast or Bruges by transit.

Liked Location was great for the beach and bike ride along the front. Small little park.

Disliked The ants - we were I guess unlucky as the pitch had lots of ant nests. Very close together, and again unfortunately had someone snoring so loudly and the mobile home Children awake at 4.30am banging about :( got charged more in city tax than what was stated on our pitch up booking. My son got connected on WiFi but we couldn’t. Men were in the female toilets and well left the toilet in a state. This wasn’t cleaned for sometime, but was by the morning.

Liked Not a great deal I’m afraid. The fact it was 30 mins from Brugge was good I suppose.

Disliked One of the weirdest campsites we’ve stayed in. Onerous in its rules and extra charges (€59 on pitchip, then another €18 requested direct from campsite , then upon arrival €1.50 extra per person to use the toilet block, which is surely an essential amenity and to be included in the price, rather than an optional extra?!), but also very tired and run down and not much sign of love anywhere on site. Very unkept feel to the grounds, a weird ‘no man land’ field full of holes and loose cables in the middle, the toilet block half a mile away from where we camped which ran out of toilet roll in the night, and staff didn’t seem to give a damn when approached about anything. Overall a poor experience and we could wait to leave in the morning.

Liked Close proximity to the town, helpful receptionist

Disliked Tourist tax of 17:00 euro for 2 adults for 2 nights overall didn’t think this site was value for money costing £110 for 2 nights that wouldn’t include showers. The facilities were the furthest I have ever experienced away from the touring pitches, including clean water. Everything from the rules is we want your money, rubbish , visitors, showers all pay more. WiFi was equivalent to 3G , however as we were a fair way from reception guess that is where the signal is stronger

Liked Good shower and toilet facilities, close to the beach, good access for cycling into town.

Disliked Some of the site looked unfinished with service cables and pipes coiled up. There were only 2 showers and toilets for male/female which meant waiting to shower sometimes.

Liked Level pitch.

Disliked Only one small toilet and shower block with only 2 toilets and showers in each for the whole camp. Too far away from the touring pitch.
Migrants walking through the camp.
2 females with their 7 kids staying in a tent. Kids running around stealing everything they could.

Local attractions

The three-kilometre stretch of beach in Blankenberge may well keep you occupied for a fair amount of your holiday, but that’s not the only thing the town has to offer. You’ll also want to take a stroll along the 350-metre-long pier (perhaps stopping for something to eat on the way, or looking out for one of the regular cultural events) and see more than 5,000 aquatic creatures at Sea Life Blankenberge. Elsewhere along the coast you may also like to take the tram to one of the neighbouring towns like Knokke-Heist (half an hour on the tram) or De Haan (40 minutes) – each has its own character. There’s also a lovely coastal park at Zwin Natuur Park (half an hour's drive), with coastal walking and bike trails through salt marshes and around the lagoon. Inland, you should certainly make time for a visit to Bruges (20 minutes' drive/half an hour by train) to take a boat tour, climb the Belfry, admire the architecture and visit the museums. And if you've got the kids with you, the rides and shows of Plopsaland De Panne (55 minutes) may well be on the cards too…
