Sunset at newton farm campsite

  • Well-maintained family-run Pembrokeshire site six miles from Pembroke
  • Freshwater West beach five minutes' drive; Barafundle Bay 20 minutes
  • Sea views on one side, with National Trust estate on the other
If you’re heading to Pembrokeshire to explore its famously gorgeous coastline, you’ll probably be particularly delighted to hear you can see the sea from right there on your pitch when you stay at Newton Farm Campsite. This spacious and well-maintained farm site is about six miles west of Pembroke, just off the road heading down towards the fabulous Freshwater West beach (five minutes’ drive away). With the sea views on one side (especially stunning at sunset…) and a backdrop of the National Trust’s Gupton Estate on the other, it’s a pretty place to hang out at all hours of the day. And by night too… as this is a dark-skies area where you should get some good stargazing on clear nights. The grass pitches here are part of a family-run site that’s got a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and access to all the essential facilities including toilets, showers, a washing-up area and chemical disposal. It’s a laidback place where you’ll be allowed to bring along dogs and barbecues or light campfires as long as you’re careful with them all. This site makes a great base for getting out and about to explore this part of Pembrokeshire – several fabulous sights, including Barafundle Bay, the Bosherston lily ponds and the Green Bridge of Wales, are within 20 minutes’ drive, and there are some great family attractions around such as Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo. You might also like to note that the ferry port for services to Rosslare is only about 10 minutes’ drive, making this a handy spot to consider for a stay before or after you cross the Irish Sea.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Very helpful owner. We hadn’t booked electric hook up but he managed to find one for us on a busy bank holiday weekend. He was available all through the weekend.

Disliked It was a busy weekend but maybe need to think about more toilets for the size of the campsite.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Lots of space, a lovely view of the sea. The owner was very kind and helpful. Grocery shop in a village only 10 mins drive away. About 25 min drive from Tenby. I would definitely stay here again!

Disliked You need 50p coin to use the showers. Bit of a hassle but not the end of the world!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Loved this campsite, even though it was very basic, the location was perfect and the field was huge and the site had a lovely feel to it. We will be returning. Favourite thing was the amazing location for the sunsets and star gazing.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Great site very close to 2 awesome beaches. Site owner is an absolute gem. The site has a great vibe and great views what more could you want.

Disliked Would be great if there was allocated pitches rather than just a free for all, but that’s just personal preference from someone who likes things a little more organised

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Close to the beaches and could choose your own space, lots of room for kids to run around and be kids.

Great views

Disliked The amount of camping/tent steaks left in the field; stood on one that went through my shoe and into the arch of my foot (someone have twisted it so sharp end) also picked up 5 working to and from the toilet. Watch your tyres!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely big space with sea views!
A short drive to nearby towns, 15 mins from Pembroke, Bosherston and Manorbier. Rowland is very helpful for anything that you need whilst there.

Disliked Very basic facilities. Only a few toilets and the showers need 50p for hot water.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked What can I say? Whatever I write here will not make this place any justice. Beautiful place in a stunning location. We had an amazing time during our stay at Newton Farm Campsite. They offer very basic but clean facilities: toilets & shower (always tidy - Bring 50p coins for the shower, which lasts a lot longer than I was expecting!), washing up area, water point, bins and we even managed to plug onto electricity for a couple of pounds a day. Rowland is such a lovely man - really friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Located in an idyllic location with great views and only 10/15 mins away from fabulous beaches and places of interest. We couldn't believe how cheap it was as well. For a 3 night stay in our motorhome we paid £63, which was an absolute bargain! This was a very last minute holiday due to an unexpected change of plans and we lucked out. Pembrokshire is a fabulous place, the locals were so friendly, interesting and approachable too. We will be back to keep exploring the area, for sure!

Local attractions

The nearest beach, Freshwater West (five minutes’ drive) is one of Pembrokeshire’s finest – it’s a long sandy stretch that’s popular with surfers and surf schools, as well as Harry Potter fans, who come along to see Dobby the House Elf’s grave in the sand dunes. Elsewhere along the coast, lots more lovely beaches await – the likes of Broad Haven South, Barafundle Bay (both 20 minutes) and Tenby (half an hour). Walks on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are highly recommended too, taking you to places like the Green Bridge of Wales rock arch, St Govan’s Chapel and Angle (which has a particularly good pub and café). For family outings, you may like to plan days at places like Pembroke Castle (10 minutes), The Dinosaur Park (20 minutes), Heatherton World of Activities (20 minutes), Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (25 minutes), Wild Lakes Wales (half an hour)…
