Llwyngwair Manor Holiday Park

9.6

This park does not currently take bookings here on Pitchup.com.

General

  • Family park in the grounds of a manor house a mile from the coast
  • Fish for trout and salmon on the private site river
  • Woodland, meadows, play areas, bar and TV lounge

Just lush. Take your fishing kit to Llwyngwair Manor Holiday Park near Newport in Pembrokeshire for idle days angling for trout, sea trout and salmon on a stretch of private river.

The park is in the grounds of an old manor house, overlooked by the Preseli Hills and in a green and scenic setting: 'beautiful', 'fantastic' and 'stunning' are a very few of the compliments lavished on Llwyngwair Manor by former guests. It's in a spectacular setting for getting around too, as Newport and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are a mile away, the famed sands of Fishguard are within 15 minutes' drive, and the site is in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park for weeks' worth of outdoor adventures.

The fishing on site is on the Nevern river flowing peacefully through the grounds; guests just need to bring their own kit and arrange a private fishing permit from the Llwyngwair Manor team (you'll need a valid Environment Agency licence too).

And if you're not up for angling? This lushly scenic park has loads of other stuff to get stuck into: you could meander around the grounds to seek your own serene spot among the woodland, meadows and flowering shrubs… or laze about at the play areas while the kids let loose… or cycle around the grounds… or take the kids paddling and nature spotting in the river.

And after all that? Make your way to the bar for Sky TV, bar meals, a games room, a snooker room and a tennis court. A TV lounge is also available for guests, and as this is a family-focused park an entertainment programme for all ages runs during July and August and on bank holidays.

The Bell tent, clean, comfy, surrounding area on site lovely, peace and quite, kids were safe, staff very friendly, facilities clean and tidy.

    Disliked:

Someone snoring at night in neighbouring tent but that can’t be helped and won’t affect our review of the site, I think would be good idea to have a little shop on site for bits as not many shops near by.

What’s not to like, beautiful grounds, river and outstanding facilities. Our kids love this site. They can roam and explore the woodland and river and there is tons of space to explore.

We generally bring food but have also eaten in the restaurant on a number of occasions too and it fairly priced and zero to complain about.
    Good pub food.

In the local area are plenty of walks and a mountain to clime as well if you fancy it.

Lovely site that was well maintained and utilities clean and not crowded. Tent site is on small river which kids loved to fish even though as beginners didn't catch anything it kept them entertained. Site sheltered so did not get beaten by the storm. Lovely walks in woods on rainy day with Trewern Arms pub in Nevern on route and food great but a little more expensive; walk manageable with young children (about 3km circular route). Beach too far to walk for the kids, but only 15min drive to Newport Beach (£5 all day; overspill parking on beach so plenty of space and assume same price). Newport harbour and other smaller beaches parking more limited (Old Sailor pub at Dinas Island lovely/great value food). Hotel on site served food, and went early each time without booking but possibly need to book (went for basic, quick meals which were good value). Kids loved crabbing off the harbour at Fishguard, and can swim in sea right at end of harbour. Most places had kids meals, although not always a vegetarian option.

Local attractions

You could just roam around within strolling distance of the site and still find loads to keep you gleefully occupied for weeks: Newport, a mile away, has two beaches to explore, a boat club for trips out on the water – and several friendly pubs serving food for afterwards.

You can access the Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Newport too, either east towards St Dogmaels or west towards Pwllgwaelod. The St Dogmaels route is the toughest at 14 miles (the Pwllgwaelod one is seven), but well worth it for sturdy-legged sorts as it passes spectacular sights like Witches Cauldron, Poppit Sands, St Dogmaels Abbey and the Teifi estuary; look out for porpoises and whales in the waters below this last, and seals on the beaches below Cemaes Head.

Even more adventurous types can tackle local coasteering, zorbing and treetop trails; for sightseeing, Skomer Island trips and sea safaris are a top pick in the area (access the island an hour and five minutes' drive south at Martin's Haven), and for families there's Folly Farm and Oakwood Theme Park, both within 50 minutes.

More gently (and grownuply), Newport Links Golf Club is under 10 minutes' drive away.

Must see

  • National Wool Museum (28.3 kilometers)
  • St Davids Cathedral (33.9 kilometers)
  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (36.4 kilometers)

  • St David's Visitor Centre and Shop (34.5 kilometers)
