Bybrook Alpacas: Sit out on the deck and enjoy the view across the valley

General

  • Alpaca farm on the edge of the Preseli Mountains
  • A short walk from woodland stream and play areas
  • Picnic table, barbecue, chiminea and charging facilities all included

On the edge of the Preseli Mountains, glorious views across animal paddocks and over the valley await at Bybrook Alpacas, a cosy and peaceful Carmarthenshire site surrounded by lush green countryside.

The big draw of this place is the peace and quiet (and the resident Shetland ponies, chickens and rabbits, plus the woolly alpacas of course), but there’s plenty nearby to keep the whole family entertained – from getting to grips with the Preseli Mountains on bike or foot to thrills at the nearby adventure parks. The towns of Whitland and Narbeth – and their pubs, restaurants and supermarkets – are both about 15 minutes away by car.

From the farm, a short wander takes you into the surrounding woodlands where you can amble beside the small stream while the kids seek out suitable play areas. Of an evening, plonk yourself on the picnic table outside, fire up the barbecue, light the chiminea and relax – what better way to pass the time than with good food and drink by a roaring fire?

This is a real get-away-from-it-all place, but if you don’t plan on disconnecting from the world completely you’ll have access to handy charging points for your phone, tablet and other small devices.

Facilities on site include a toilet, shower and kitchenette kitted out with cutlery, crockery and cookware (good news for folk planning to travel light).

Please note

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Everything! We had our own field with the camping pod, over looking the animals, it was just perfect. Great space for cooking which is surrounded by beautiful scenery. Has its own toilet and shower facilities within the kitchenette which was really nice. Malcom the owner was fantastic, he was really helpful, told us all about the alpacas and let us feed and smooth them. Other cute farm animals there too. Malcom provided yummy fresh eggs and lovely seasoned logs for a small cost, which burnt great in the fire pit provided. Bybrook alpaca I found very healing and will definitely return with my family to enjoy their piece of paradise again soon.

The Henrietta horse-box is located in the corner of a massive field. The views are spectacular, just the nature, cows, sheep and alpacas in sight. The place is quite isolated but with easy access. The horse-box is well equipped( with pots, pans, plates, cups, cutlery, small fridge, chopping board) spacious and definitely unique. You can walk between the animal’s fields (pens) if you wish. You can have a barbecue or a fire pot there too as it has a designated space for that.
Malcolm the owner is very polite and helpful. He will happy answer any of your queries and is very good with ‘enthusiastic’ and full of energy young children. Our son loved hand feeding the alpacas and two pigs every morning. There are also other animals on the farm- a horse, black and white sheeps, chickens, ducks, two guinea pigs and a rabbit. All easily accessible and ready for a stroke.
Malcolm also sells delicious feee range eggs.
There is a 15 min drive to the nearest town with shops, cafes and restaurants.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike but more of a heads up - there are only two USB chargers in the Horsebox, no standard sockets available.

Malcolm was such a friendly host, telling us that he feeds the Alapacas at 8am, and we were free to join him which was a lovely touch! The Pod was a lovely cosy example, nice and warm at night. The gas BBQ was amazing with the cover to use in the wet weather. We also got a dozen of freshly laid eggs for £2, which is a bargain! The customer service was great, we text him with any issues which we had none of. The parking was very close to the Pod which was nice when the weather wasn't great.

Beautiful and well-kept surroundings, friendly owners who are always ready to help. Children could approach the animals whenever they wanted, a lot of space for games and other activities. Henrieta, a very comfortable and well-kept cabin, is in a very good location, away from the rest of the farm, which we enjoyed very much because we did not disturb anyone and our children could feel free.
Amazing place and I'm sure we will visit again!

The pod, kitchenette, fire pit and the alpacas, of course! The bed was very comfy and the scenery was beautiful (even in the rain)

    Disliked:

Not enough power sockets, kitchenette could benefit from mains electricity so a kettle or toaster could be plugged in. The decking area looks a bit tired and could do with a fresh lick of paint too.

This was a single Pod on a farm, down some long, narrow country lanes.

Centrally located, if you want to drive to St Davids/Skomer/Tenby.

Local attractions

If the adorable alpacas have left you wanting more animal encounters, set off to Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (20 minutes' drive) or to Clerkenhill Adventure Farm & Frizbee Golf Course (that’s animals and some pretty competitive frisbee chucking all in one place).

For rainy days, take cover at Bluestone Adventure Centre (20 minutes) where the indoor shenanigans include miniature golf, climbing frames, soft play areas, bouncy castles and diggers to drive. Or cool off at Blue Lagoon Water Park (20 minutes) as you race down rides, rapid rivers and flumes.

For a bit of sightseeing, snap-worthy spots include 13th-century Cilgerran Castle (25 minutes), Pentre Ifan burial chamber (30 minutes) and Castell Henllys Iron Age hill fort (30 minutes).

If the coast is calling, pack up your beach bag and head south to some of the area’s sandy hotspots – Saundersfoot is around half an hour away, Tenby 35 minutes and Pendine Sands about 40 minutes.
