Local attractions

Coastal Escapes Just 10 minutes from the site, Ferryside offers a quiet sandy beach perfect for wandering through dunes or exploring rockpools at low tide. The currents here can be strong, so it’s more of a place for strolling and taking in the view than for swimming. If you fancy something with a bit more buzz, Llanelli’s coastline (about half an hour away) is popular for watersports — you can hire a kayak or canoe, or head indoors to the local play centre with its sports area. Pembrey Country Park is around 20 minutes away and home to Cefn Sidan beach — eight miles of award-winning golden sand, ideal for long walks, sandcastle building, or simply stretching out in the sun. For the Active Traveller Pembrey Country Park is more than just a beach day. You can try the dry ski slope for skiing or tobogganing, cycle along miles of scenic paths, or take a gentle ride on the miniature railway. Keen golfers can tee off at Glyn Abbey Golf Club (15 minutes away) or Ashburnham Golf Club (20 minutes). For a day at the races, Ffos Las Racecourse is about 15 minutes from the site and makes for an exciting change of pace. Heritage & Wildlife History lovers shouldn’t miss Kidwelly Castle — just a five-minute drive away and famously featured in the opening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Kidwelly Industrial Museum (10 minutes away) also gives a fascinating insight into the area’s working past. A little further afield, Llansteffan Castle (around 35 minutes) is well worth a visit. You can even arrive by ferry from Ferryside — just check the tidal schedule and book ahead. For a more tranquil outing, the National Botanic Garden of Wales (about 30 minutes) offers peaceful walks among themed gardens, tropical glasshouses, and a British Bird of Prey Centre. If you’re happy to venture a bit further (around 50 minutes), there are big family favourites like Folly Farm Adventure Park & Zoo, Manor Wildlife Park, and the Dinosaur Park near Tenby.
