  • Small family farm surrounded by nature in West Wales
  • Two miles from the National Botanic Garden of Wales
  • Farm animals, small duck pond and wildlife area on site
Day at the beach or day in the Brecon Beacons? How about both? Cracking Carmarthenshire site Coedhirion Farm is in a mighty handy location between the two, allowing you to pick freely between coast and countryside (and also castles, theme parks and botanic gardens) on a West Wales whim. This family-friendly place is on a working farm just off the A48 (excellent news for those who fear manoeuvring their van along little lanes) and a leisurely 10-minute stroll from a couple of country pubs in Llanddarog (excellent news for
well, just about anyone). There’s also a post office down in the village; not such exciting news perhaps, until you learn that they serve a rather fine brekkie. Carmarthen is around a 10-minute drive away for restaurants, supermarkets and other shops. Peaceful times beckon here: woods and wildflowers are all around, and there’s a dedicated wildlife area on site, with a small duck pond and nature trails for the nippers to follow. You’re also welcome to pet and feed the farm’s Limousin cattle and Texel and Coloured Ryeland sheep (pick your animal snacks wisely though, and don’t forget to wash your hands afterwards). Kids chomping at the bit for a runaround? There’s plenty of space for ball games at the grassy play area. Amenities include water taps, electric hookups and a chemical disposal point, plus there's a well-maintained shower and toilet block that’s won plaudits from previous guests (‘cleaned so many times each day we lost count’ says one).

What customers say

A well-kept, friendly campground with great, clean washrooms, often praised for being spacious and having hot water. Guests liked the peaceful vibe, nearby shops, and farm animals. Some mentioned A48 traffic noise, and a few had check-in or facility availability issues. Highly recommended for a chill escape.

Power optional grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Fantastic overnight spot for us. Lovely family farm. The showers were extremely spacious with the owner around and always checking clean. Had the fire pit which was lovely and big with plenty of wood supplied. I found it quiet in the evening. Camper van pitch out the back.
Lovely family with great knowledge of the area. Loved the pigs and pond area.

Summer Field primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely clean site, had animals to see and lovely little stop overnight.

Disliked We were staying with family and had to vacate our pitch at noon. We would have liked to have had the option to maybe park our camper van in the car park and spend a few hours with my grandchildren as they were staying another night but unfortunately we were asked to leave.
We had two pitches that were uneven which led to my husband having a very bad back for 5 days. The grass could have also done with a cut. A bit overpriced.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are disappointed that you didn’t enjoy your stay with us.
You didn’t ask if you could park up somewhere to spend extra time with your family. We would certainly have said yes. The booking on Pitch up clearly states that your pitch has to be vacated by 12 noon, we had another booking for your Camper Van’s hard standing pitch and new visitors can arrive from 12 noon onwards. Your daughter’s grass pitch was for two nights and no one mentioned that they were unhappy with either pitch at the time. We could easily have relocated you.
Incidentally, your Camper Van pitch is generally regarded as our best pitch and many, many visitors have stayed on it and have always been happy. We placed you there to be close to your daughter , there were several other pitches available that evening which you could easily have moved to.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked It was the perfect chilled getaway. Such a lovely campsite. It was quiet, out the way and quirky. The piggies (Sorrow and Truffles) were very cute and made the stay even better, perfect little pets. The hosts couldn’t do enough for you and they were so lovely and welcoming.

The wash station were something else. The showers aren’t like these other camping showers that turn off every 1 min, they stay on and are power showers. Generally very clean and cleaned a few times a day.

We didn’t/couldn’t log into the WIFI, so can’t really comment on it one.

But, Overall
10/10 from us and will be returning.

Disliked Nothing we disliked.

Summer Field primitive grass campsite

Liked Washing room

Disliked Camp with a closed playground. Poorly functioning washing machine (dirty water remains in the washing machine), which must be paid for. The clothes dryer does not dry the clothes, the cut grass was not cleaned up. Expensive camp with non-functional equipment.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are sorry to read of your disappointment with our small site. We had many other guests this weekend who were all very happy. The tumble drier and washing machines were both working perfectly yesterday.
The playground is awaiting safety inspection and cannot be opened until the inspection is completed. We attach the utmost importance to your children’s safety.
The grass is cut regularly and it has never caused problems for any previous campers.
We will ensure that your complaints are investigated, it is a pity that you didn’t mention them when I spoke to you this morning!

Local attractions

For a bit of local history, take the 10-minute drive into Carmarthen, a riverside town that’s got the remains of a Roman fort and amphitheatre, or to hilltop folly Paxton’s Tower for some fab views. You’re never too far from a castle in Wales of course, and that’s true here – Dinefwr, Llansteffan and Kidwelly castles are all within a half-hour drive for those that’d like to play at being knights. The site’s also less than two miles from the National Botanic Garden of Wales, a gorgeous site covering several themed gardens, the world’s largest single-span glasshouse and a tropical butterfly house. Kids after a bit more adrenaline? Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo is a half-hour drive away. For beach days, it’s a half-hour drive to several miles of sand around Pembrey; walks in the Brecon Beacons are about the same distance away.
