What customers say
This peaceful glamping site offers a nature-focused experience with well-equipped, comfortable tents and huts. Guests appreciate the private bathrooms, thoughtful touches like welcome baskets, and the owners' hospitality. The site's biodiversity is highlighted, with floral areas and birdlife contributing to a tranquil atmosphere. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, one August 2025 guest reported concerns about the tent flooring, shower temperature fluctuations, and unclean seating cushions, which the manager stated were being addressed. Some guests noted a lack of phone signal.

Bell tent
Liked Nice and quiet location. Lovely little play area for the children.
Disliked The condition of the flooring that the tent was on was particularly concerning. It felt unsafe and my youngest tripped a few times due to the dips and unevenness of the flooring. 4 out of 5 of us had showers, unfortunately the water kept running hot and cold, which proved a challenge. The cushions/ pads for the seating area outside were unclean, and honestly the overall feel was that was run down and in need of work.

From the manager: Thank you for your comments and of course we take all feedback very seriously, especially as this is the first time anyone has had anything negative to say about Lower Monkton on this platform or any other platforms.
We are a very small bespoke site with one bell tent which was brand new this year (certainly not run down) and a brand new shepherd’s hut. As we mentioned on the phone to you, apologies that some paint had splashed onto the cushions which sadly we hadn’t had time to replace before your stay, and we are looking into the shower issue. We always endeavour to rectify any problems as soon as we hear about them.
We also appreciate that arriving in a storm and bad weather to camp is never nice, as we discussed afterwards on the phone, and this can really impact a stay, especially with children. Before your stay we had also been in touch to ask if you would prefer to move your booking to a weekend with better weather, at your convenience.
At Lower Monkton we are committed to sustainability and the deck that the tent is on is all from recycled material, but covered by coir matting. These support a double bed, love seats and single beds as required. I’m sorry if the floor felt slightly springy but I can assure you in no way is it unsafe.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Excellent hut, spotlessly clean and well equipped.
Shepherd's hut
Liked We liked everything about the shepherds hut. It was quiet and peaceful, the hut has super comfy beds, the owner was friendly and the donkeys are gorgeous.

Bell tent
Liked It was our second visit to the site and we weren't disappointed. We found the accommodation extremely comfortable, with lots of thoughtful touches. The site is peaceful with just two pitches, but with plenty to do in the surrounding area. The hosts were incredibly helpful and generous throughout our stay.

Beautiful site in nature with everything you’d need!
Bell tent
Liked It’s clear from the moment you arrive that the owners of this site have gone above and beyond to make your experience a special one. Issac showed us everything we needed and was so kind to give us more information on places we hoped to visit.
The bell tent we stayed in was stunning, filled with homely touches and plenty of space. The welcome basket was such a pleasant touch and greatly appreciated.
You have your own private shower and toilet which are kept perfectly clean with towels provided.
The site itself is a haven. If you love the sounds of nature whilst having the comforts of glamming then this site really is for you. The owners have done so much to enhance the biodiversity, there are floral areas for bees, no mow sections to increase butterflies and plenty of birds to see. We visited Nash point, took a coastal walk to Monkton Beach and visited the town of Cowbridge which where all memorable and recommended by Hannah and Patrick.
If you do find yourself forgetting anything they have kindly set up a shed shop with any extras you may need.
Overall it was a blissful weekend we will never forget and we will be back!
Thank you again for a lovely stay.
Disliked Nothing! Keep doing what you are doing because you have created something special.
