  • Family-run touring park set in open Anglesey countryside
  • Just off the A55; Caernarfon and Beaumaris 20 minutes’ drive
  • Dog-friendly site with views of Snowdonia National Park
Stuck deciding between the mountains, the coast and the countryside? All three are easily accessed from Ael y Garnedd, a family-run touring park in Star, Anglesey. How so? Well, this site has a splendid selection of well-maintained, level pitches in pleasant grounds just off the A55, easily accessible from the Britannia Bridge and close to the Anglesey coastline. The pitches have the added bonus of spectacular views over the mountains of Snowdonia National Park (which is from 20 minutes’ drive away, by the way). Whether it's mountaineering in Snowdonia, rib rides and exploring the castle in Beaumaris (20 minutes), or lunch in Caernarfon (20 minutes), the site's central location is bound to come very much in handy. That’s what makes this place such a great base for family and dog-friendly holidays spent both on the island and mainland. Sandy beaches are close by too, and you'll be less than 30 minutes from the offerings at Benllech, Aberffraw, Rhosneigr and Ynys Llanddwyn, a haven for ramblers, rockpoolers and cyclists. With amenities like grey-waste disposal, toilets and showers all provided, as well as a laundry room, life on site is comfortable, and if you do need to venture out it won't take you long to find what you're looking for. The nearest pub is five minutes' drive, while Menai Bridge (10 minutes) has a large supermarket and an array of shops and restaurants.

What customers say

Highly recommended, clean campsite with immaculate facilities & spacious pitches. Great for exploring Anglesey/N. Wales, but some noise from A55/trains. Some sloped pitches, few walking amenities. Excellent value.

Powered grass campsite

Liked The shower facilities were really clean and tidy and were constantly being checked and replenished. A lovely site to stay on. Very pleasant, tentative and respectful staff. Grass cuttings were also collected so there was no grass treading through the outfit.

Disliked Not really a “dislike” but other available pitches weren’t used to spread guests out so that we weren’t on top of eachother. We had a tent so close I thought he was trying to avoid pitch fees and attach to us as an awning! 😬

Liked Lovely clean toilets and showers lovely Veiw across to snowdonia

Disliked Could have a drive over grey waste area for motorhome. The email welcoming us for our stay and advising of our pitch number arrived after we left, there is no new arrivals area marked out so didn't know where to go and got told we couldn't park were we were as wasn't our pitch but if we aren't sent the email how do we know?
Biten by horseflies about 20 times whilst washing up
Can hear the A55 from all over the site

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The site was well kept and clean. There was very little noise.

Disliked The hosts didn’t make us feel welcome, I was phoned and accused of being on the wrong pitch despite being on the pitch allocated. I did get an apology via email but didn’t feel this made up for the accusation and the way I was spoken to when they phoned for this conversation.

The shower is fixed, this makes it harder to wash small children.

We will not be revisiting.

Local attractions

When you want to stay pretty local, make Menai Suspension Bridge (five minutes' drive) your first stop. The huge suspension bridge between Anglesey and mainland Wales is a sight to behold. Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens (10 minutes) is rather interesting too, as a historic estate with peaceful gardens and tea rooms. Beaumaris (20 minutes) next? This stop is by the seaside, hence the gorgeous promenade, and the castle is also worth a visit. Caernarfon Castle (20 minutes) has a big ‘wow’ factor too – the huge palace-style fortress sits along the river Seiont and looks very grand. In Conwy (30 minutes), there’s another castle, as well as the harbour where boat tours take off across the coast. For those of you interested in getting to know legends and history around St David, visit the island of Ynys Llanddwyn (30 minutes). The scenery is just as great at Great Orme (45 minutes), a chunk of limestone land that juts out into the sea and has been named the ‘sea monster’ by the Vikings. Time for some adrenaline instead? Zip World Fforest (40 minutes) has a forest rollercoaster and zipwires or swings over the treetops.
