  • Secluded seaside site on the coast 20 minutes' drive from Caernarfon
  • A 20-minute drive to Snowdonia walks; half an hour to Portmeirion
  • Access to a private beach, with sea views across the site
Ever dreamt of having access to a private beach? Then you'll need to book a break at Bach Wen. On the Gwynedd coast just outside the village of Clynnog-Fawr, this secluded seaside spot will make that idea a reality. It’s just the place for relaxing holidays, with plenty of space for all guests to spread out, and a sizeable paddock for kids and dogs to scamper about. And yes indeed, its own beach area too – simply follow the stream to get to the sands for days of swimming, kayaking, fishing or hikes along the coast path. Spot the sea while on site too if you prefer to stay put – the views are particularly stunning at sunset, and even better again with a cold beer or glass of wine in hand from the on-site bar (you’ll just need to arrange this a little bit in advance to make sure someone’s around to do the pouring honours). Those of you who’d rather pick up your own food and potions, there’s a little supermarket five minutes’ walk away in the village. Those cold drinks may well be much welcomed by those aiming to pack plenty of activity into their break here – this location at the top of the Llŷn Peninsula means that there’s much to explore nearby. Head into the nearby Snowdonia National Park for hikes, mountain biking and an adventure park, soak up the history of Caernarfon, 20 minutes’ drive away, or bounce around the numerous beaches of the peninsula.

The Glade powered grass and earth tent campsite (riverside)

Liked: If I could give this site a hundred stars I would! Absolutely beautiful place with really friendly and helpful owners who go out of their way to help their guests. We booked The Glade ages ago and couldn't wait for our trip. When we got there we went to The Glade to find it full of mud then John came along and gave us the option of pitching our tent on the main field instead as it was dryer. He then got us an extension lead so we had electrical hook up and he said for us to use the fridge/freezer and seating area in the barn which was gorgeous. That night the storm hit and we had to evacuate the tent as it started lifting off the ground and myself, my son, his girlfriend and our two dogs decamped to the car in the middle of the night and watched our tent tip up and crash against a wall. John came looking for us as soon as it was light and insisted on us going into one of their holiday cottages to warm up. After hot showers and changing into dry clothes John came back and said that for a small charge we could have the rest of our break in the cottage which we did. Mill Cottage was beautiful, cosy and with amazing views across the sea and we will be going back there asap for another visit. Perfect place to explore the surrounding areas as well. I cannot recommend this place enough and can't thank John and Dave enough for their kindness and help in such a frightening time

The Glade powered grass and earth tent campsite (riverside)

Liked: Lovely views, nice secluded pitch where we had our tent, guys who ran the site were great! Shower and toilet facilities fantastic!

Disliked: Far too muddy! I appreciate we visited in early April and they’d had bad weather, but feel more could be done to make the path ways easier to walk on, like laying some gravel or stones maybe? Especially when you can’t park by the pitch and have to use a wheel barrow to take gear from the car to the tent, we have a big tent and a lot of gear plus 2 dogs, just wasn’t ideal

Burdock camping pod

Liked: We have stayed in the Burdock cabin for a long weekend and eveything about our stay was amazing. First, the location is wonderful with the cabin facing the beautiful sea. The cabin was well equipped with the wood stove, a cooker and an electric heater in case it got too cold. We have found the facilities excellent and clean at all times. We experienced a power cut during the strong storm, but this was quickly resolved by the very helpful caretaker. Also, it was very peaceful as the cabin is rather secluded. his place is definitely recommended!

Local attractions

It’s quiet at the nearby Trefor beach (10 minutes' drive) and that’s part of what makes it such a fine spot for sea fishing. You might get hooked on all sorts of watersports locally too, particularly in Abersoch (half an hour), where surfing and wakeboarding are some of the ways to get your hair wet, or the 'Whistling Sands' at Porthor beach (45 minutes), which has fab surfing conditions. Away from the sand, first-timers could put their balance to the test with a lesson on the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (an hour) too. Of course, there are all sorts of other activities all around the Snowdonia National Park (20 minutes), so when you’re looking for a way to wind things down, perhaps with a lighter walk, you could take in the turrets of Caernarfon Castle (20 minutes) or the smaller Bryn Bras Castle (20 minutes). Back to the coast, though, fishing villages are a fancy way to spend the way pottering around the shore. Porthdinllaen (20 minutes) has a beach and the popular Tŷ Coch Inn, while Portmeirion (half an hour) is modelled on Italian architecture, with sub-tropical gardens and a splendid spa, shops and eateries.
