Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Love this campsite, been many times. A great base for travelling out and about in the local area. Owners are lovely, nothing is too much trouble for them, even jump started my van for us when we let the battery go flat. Lots of work carried out recently which makes the place look amazing. Definitely worth booking, great for all ages.

Disliked: Nothing at all

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Great price, close enough to the main bits of Eryri to get there relatively early, without the crazy prices that you see near Llanberis. Decent facilities and plenty of space to pitch The pub, although quite close, is down a busyish national speed limit road with no pavement so you will want a headtorch if you're going later on

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Flat pitches, shower was hot and the water stayed on without having to press a button, quiet and peaceful vibes. Stream was nice and I had a dip in the stream, which was refreshing. Easy check in. Little chickens running about which were cute. Really nice vibe and lovely views around.

Disliked: Only one toilet for male & females, and only one shower. This was ok as it wasn't too busy, but if it was busier this could be an issue. Also, it had been raining meaning the ground was muddy/boggy, which wasn't an issue for us but worth mentioning for others to know. Also, washing up area was cold water + had no cover.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Peaceful campsite with a small brook running through. Easy to locate and well positions for visits to Anglesey, Llŷn Peninsula and Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Facilities were clean and well maintained. The owners were incredibly accommodating, allowing us to exchange a second pitch for a second night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Disliked: The facilities are admittedly basic, with one shower and two toilets for the campsite. We didn’t find this to be a problem while visiting on a relatively busy bank holiday weekend.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The camping area was lovely, plenty of space with no restrictions on how much room you had. Views of the mountains and sound of the brook were wonderful. Plenty of hot water at wash basin and shower.

Disliked: Noise from the main road, no instructions how to find the site, no booking in system, very brief welcome from the owners, website very basic, didn't give any real information about the facilities available, very basic bathroom facilities in that at least 40 people on site had to share 1 male toilet, 1 female toilet, 1 wash basin and 1 shower. 1 outside washing sink with cold water tap only, no provision for freezing ice packs.

Liked: Liked the riverside spot. The location was good - only a few miles to Criccieth and beaches. The garden centre nearby does good breakfasts. Facilities were clean.

Disliked: Only one shower and sink so had to wait a couple of times, probably because it was a bank holiday and so quite busy.

Local attractions

If guests in your group are clamouring for castles, send them off to Criccieth (10 minutes' drive), a Cadw-run 13th-century fortress with impressive views over Cardigan Bay. You might also want to call in at Caernarfon Castle (20 minutes) on the southern edge of the Menai Strait, whose mighty walls endured both Owain Glyndwr's sieges and the fiercest fighting of the Civil War. Once you've seen some of the coast, take to the mountains and Snowdonia, where excellent walks are up for grabs at scenic spots like Llanberis (20 minutes) or Beddgelert (20 minutes). Fancy trading in your walking boots for old-fashioned steam train trips? The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway (15 minutes) can sort visitors with whistle-stop tours of the spectacular local landscape. For something a bit more active, Zip World Slate Caverns (35 minutes) should fit the bill with its zipwires, trampolines and underground play park. Older kids in your crew might be more taken by the action-packed activities laid on at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (an hour), including top-rated watersports like freshwater surfing.
