  • Quiet family-friendly site with spectacular Irish Sea views in Gwynedd
  • Access to Llŷn Coastal Path; Eryri National Park 45 minutes’ drive
  • Private pebble beach walkable from the pitches; pubs 10 minutes’ drive
There’s rural and there’s really rural. Pant Gwyn Farm comes under the latter category. Set on the spectacular Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales, this caravan and camping site on a working cattle and sheep farm has far-reaching mountain and Irish Sea views from its clifftop pitches – on a clear day you can glimpse Ireland on the horizon – and from the headland, you can scramble down to a private shingle beach. Miles of walks lead off in all directions, so bring canine chums to share your Gwynedd adventure, and perhaps hike sections of the Llŷn Coastal Path direct from the site. This remote spot is so peaceful that all you can hear is cows, sheep and birdsong, and on clear evenings you can expect spectacular sunsets over the sea. The nearest shop is 15 minutes’ drive away, so it’s best to come well prepared with provisions to cover your stay. There are a couple of pubs within about 10 minutes’ drive of the site, so you’ll certainly never go hungry. Simple campsite facilities include a shower block and modern loos, as well as two washing machines, a fridge and washing-up facilities.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Views are Awesome
Loads of room for a pitch
Owner is very pleasant and helpful
Excellent place as a hub for exploring the peninsula
Two showers with wc
Two wc
Dishwashing area, fridge, washing machine
Hook-up & non hook-up
Catered for all, Caravans, Campervans, Tents, you name it, and I'm sure this place is excellent.

Disliked As there wasn't a lot of toilets/showers you had to wait your turn. Not that much of an issue, just take in the lovely views.
Some Sheep poop in the camping area. Again not an issue, it's a farm after all.

Liked Amazing location with sea views and access to the beach. My boys loved rock-pooling and fishing on the beach.
Facilities were clean and owners were friendly and helpful.

Disliked No major dislike, a chair or shelf would be handy in the toilets to place your towel and wash bag on.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Location was stunning on the cliff side. I requested a sea view and the field closest to the sea wasn’t electric hook up but the owners so kindly arranged us a back pitch with an extension cable so we could have the sea view. So very lovely for them to accommodate us this way. Campsite was very peaceful despite being on a working farm. You can get down to a small rocky beach from the site, although it’s a little scramble we managed it with blow up paddle boards in backpacks easily enough. Can walk along the coast path for a long way and that was lovely. Toilets and shower always very clean and functional, cleaning was done very well especially first thing in the morning. Owners very friendly and greeted us immediately on arrival. Always said hello with a smile. We had fab weather so was lucky, only noticed the wind on the last night were it whipped up quite a lot.

Disliked Only 2 toilets and 2 showers (with toilets in the room, so four toilets if shower is unoccupied) and sometimes this meant a wait but in 7 days I only waited a long time on one occasion. Showers were £1 and £2 coins. £1 gives 5 mins and a £2 coins only gives 7 mins so best to have £1 coins and only put in the second one after the first is done. No drying towels or anything for hands and only cold water in the sinks so take antibac and a towel to dry hands. Washing up room had payable laundry facilities and the water for washing up was super hot so be careful. Even though the showers were payable, they were hot and good and the site was pretty cheap so we didn’t mind this. A full length mirros in bathrooms would be a nice touch to be added as there were only small mirrors.

Liked Fantastic location, great views and access to a beautiful cove - we took the paddle boards and managed to enjoy two evenings in the sea whilst the sun came down. Facilities very clean and spacious pitches.

Disliked Would be great if there was a few more toilets.

Local attractions

When it comes to beaches, you can take your pick of a fair few. Sandy Porth Towyn Tudweiliog (five minutes’ drive) is something of a local secret, while Porth Ysgaden (10 minutes) is popular for paddleboarding and snorkelling around its craggy bay. You can take the kids rock pooling on the expanse at Traeth Penllech (15 minutes), or swim in shallow waters off the sweeping crescent at Porth Neigwl (20 minutes). All the climbing, hiking and cycling opportunities in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park are but 45 minutes’ drive away (the summit of Sundown can be spotted from the camping fields), but if the kids get fractious on car journeys, there are also family-friendly walks and bike rides to be had closer to home base in untamed Llŷn National Landscape (15 minutes). Take a deep dive into the history of North Wales with a visit to one (or indeed, all) of the landmark castles at Caernarfon, Beaumaris, Penrhyn, Cricceith or Harlech (all within an hour’s dive). After all that culture, reward the kids with an afternoon splashing around on the inflatable climbing course at Glasfryn Parc (25 minutes).
