  • Well-kept family-run touring park in Harlech, with mountain views
  • Beach and castle 10 minutes' walk; Portmeirion 20 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly site with agility course and dog wash area
Heading to Harlech and hoping to catch a glimpse of the castle? You’ll be able to do rather more than that at Min Y Don Caravan Park – this fabulous touring park sits just at the foot of the castle hill, and it will only take you about 10 minutes to walk over there from the pitches. In fact, as Harlech is such a compact little town, nothing is very far away from the site – there’s a golf club next door, the sandy beach is about 10 minutes’ stroll away through the dunes and pubs, restaurants, cafés, shops and the railway station are all within just a few minutes’ walk as well. With the main coastal road (the A496) running through the town, Harlech also makes a great base for some time spent exploring the coast and the rest of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Popular attractions like Llanfair Slate Caverns and Portmeirion are within easy reach, as are heaps of outdoor activities around the national park – hiking, mountain biking and climbing as well as the thrills of the various Zip World parks. It’s not all about location though, because this is also a very peaceful and well-maintained park where the owners have put a lot of effort into making sure the facilities are just right for all guests. That means things like a play area for families with young kids, accessible bathrooms for wheelchair users and a dog agility course and washing area for pets who like to get mucky on their outings. There’s also a launderette, a motorhome service point and EV chargers as well as a well-kept bathroom block.

Local attractions

Of course you’ll want to start with Harlech Castle, a UNESCO-listed medieval fortress high on a hill above the town. After that, delve into more of the local history with a candlelight tour of Llanfair Slate Caverns (five minutes’ drive), a walk to the seaside church of St Tanwg’s (five minutes) and a trip to coastal Castell Cricieth (25 minutes). Being in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park means that you’ll be surrounded by gorgeous scenery – the trails of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) are about half an hour’s drive away, and there are fabulous walking trails almost everywhere you look. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) is the place for mountain bikers, and there are adventures galore at Zip World Llechwedd (half an hour). For more leisurely outings, take a stroll through Morfa Harlech National Nature Reserve (by the site), ride the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways (20 minutes) or explore colourful Portmeirion (20 minutes). Childrens Farm Park (five minutes) is a great option if you’ve brought the kids.
