  • Base for hiking Cader Idris, the Mach Loop or Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon)
  • A 35-minute drive from Zip World Llechwedd and Bounce Below
  • Torrent Walk nearby; within 20 minutes' drive of Dyfi Bike Park
Hiker, biker or both? Walk this way. Gwynedd’s Torrent Walk Campsite and Bunkhouse is a mecca for mountain bikers and walkers, and has plenty of other activities to get stuck into nearby… For walkers, the Torrent Walk is only 500 metres from the site. Cadair Idris and its three trails can be tackled a short drive away. If you're aiming for Wales' tallest summit, then take the 50-minute drive to Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) too. Keen bikers can try out Dyfi Bike Park or Coed-y-Brenin, which are both within 20 minutes' drive of the site. Those with kids might want to pay a visit to the underground adventure at King Arthur's Labyrinth (15 minutes' drive) or the slate caverns at Zip World Llechwedd and Bounce Below (35 minutes). For watersports, head to Bala, 25 minutes' drive away, or for rides on the Welsh Highland Railway, aim for Porthmadog. At Corris Mine Explorers, 15 minutes' drive away, you can all take a tour of an abandoned Victorian slate mine too. Back at base, Torrent Walk Campsite and Bunkhouse is surrounded on all sides by woodland, farmland and mountain views, with pitches on a sheltered, level field. Site facilities include a toilet and shower block, disabled facilities, washing machines, tumble dryers, fridges, freezers, a microwave and mobile charging facilities. There’s also a power wash for bikes and equipment, and the Torrent Walk team can store your bike for you if needed. For stocking up, the garage just up the road sells essentials and camping gas. A shop and café are within five minutes' walk of the site. Otherwise, a small supermarket and a wide range of shops are in the village of Dolgellau, a mile and a half away. Cooking your own dinner? Campfires are allowed, but all the materials must be purchased on site. Looking for a dog-friendly beach day? Fairbourne beach and Barmouth beach are dog-friendly at some times of the year.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Nice independent campsite. Great facility's inc bike storage if needed, loads of showers, clean and warm toilet block. 15 min walk from Dolgallau. Great selection of buses to choose from to get you further with out using your car. i.e Barmouth ,Porthmadog , Aberystywth. Only 5 min walk from the fantastic Torrent Walk. Will be back to see it again hopefully with a bit more water running but lovely 3 mile circular walk from the site.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: The pitch was relatively inexpensive.

Disliked: Additional £9 fort one night electric seemed a bit steep. Also, a full site meant facilities could not be cleaned quickly enough.

Since when did a washing up sponge become food waste. Does make me wonder how people live at home!!!

Liked: Location, generally quiet but close to town.

Disliked: Smelly Barbecues and Firepits. Overpriced

From the manager: Im sorry but you are camping and smell of the bbqs and fire pits are to be expected. Our toilet blocks are cleaned every hour and we always have lots of comments how clean our toilet and shower block is. I guess we cant please everyone.

Local attractions

The mountains and trails of Snowdonia, the beaches of Barmouth and the north Wales coast, and heritage attractions like the Rheilffordd Talyllyn Railway and Harlech Castle are all within about half an hour’s drive of Torrent Walk, and Snowdonia National Park has activities for all sorts including whitewater rafting, horse riding, climbing and wild swimming. For gentle strolls, the National Trust managed Cregennan Lakes are about five miles west of Dolgellau on the slopes of Cadair ldris, and the flat Mawddach Trail between Dolgellau and Barmouth along the Mawddach estuary has hiking and biking paths with cracking views. Cregannan also has two lakes for fly and worm fishing, one for brown trout and the other for brown and blue. Head to the coast for Barmouth and Fairbourne, both uncrowded and with miles of golden sand. Barmouth Harbour, at the mouth of the Mawddach Estuary, is where to bag a boat for sea and fishing trips, while Fairbourne is a big pull for windsurfers and other watersport sorts. If sightseeing both seasides, take the Fairbourne Steam Railway from Fairbourne to Penrhyn Point and then the passenger ferry to Barmouth.
