Looking up at the site from the farm
Spacious grass pitches

  • Peaceful caravan park on a working farm 15 minutes from Denbigh
  • Spectacular views across the Vale of Clwyd and up to the coast
  • Farm produce available (eg eggs and sausages) and near local pub
Peaceful times, gorgeous views and easy access to walks and bike rides… all are on the menu for guests at Plas Dolben, a quiet caravan park on a working farm in the Clwydian Range Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The folk at this scenic site (which looks out over the Vale of Clwyd) keep sheep, cows, pigs and free-range chickens, and have a range of their own produce for sale to guests. Eggs, sausages and other meat products are among the edibles that are usually available for your feasts, and new potatoes put in an appearance when they’re in season too. Need to top up on the provisions? The towns of Denbigh and Ruthin are both around a 15-minute drive away for shops and restaurants; if you’d rather someone else did the cooking (and poured you a pint while you wait), take yourselves on the 10-minute trot to the local pub. This is a back to basics place, so facilities are limited to a toilet, hot shower and cold water tap; there’s also plenty of space around the site to relax and play games or light up a barbecue. Getting out into the surrounds is a cinch here: a walking trail and mountain bike trail pass through the site, and a bus route passes by for those who’d like to roam by public transport. Snowdonia and the north Wales coast are within a 45-minute drive.

Quiet site with spacious pitches & stunning Clwydian Range views. Guests rave about spotless facilities & super friendly owners. Great for stargazing & wildlife, near walks & a pub. Basic but excellent value, many want to return. A few noted limited toilets.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked We stayed at Plas Dolben for 1 night with our 2 year old and our dog, it was their first ever camping trip and for a spontaneous stay it was brilliant for us!
Beautiful views, quiet, very friendly, inviting and helpful owners, farm dogs were very friendly too 😁
Toilet and shower provided were clean and stocked up well with essentials.
We enjoyed a lovely walk visiting the sheep, cows and horses.
Brilliant price and stay, we will definitely be back ⛺️
Thank you

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked This is a great little site, the second time we've stayed and we'll be back for sure. The kids loved the space to run around & play, the sheep dogs popping by and the horses at the fence.

The hosts are friendly. The facilities are basic, but clean and do the job perfectly. There's a village pub no more than 5 minutes walk down the drive, with decent food, cold beers & big beer garden.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely spot and great host very helpful

Disliked No drinking water on site

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, I'm sorry you misunderstood. All of the water is drinking water, it is just from a spring in the mountain rather than mains water.

Local attractions

To make the most of your immediate surrounds, set out on the four-mile heritage walking route that passes through the farm, taking in abandoned farmhouses, St Cynhafal's church and the farm’s own medieval holy well. You’re also a 20-minute walk from the Offa’s Dyke Path, and an hour or so from the top of Moel Famau. For other outdoorsy pursuits, take your wheels out on the Ride the Clwyds mountain bike trail that runs through the site, or get set for games of golf (in Mold, 25 minutes’ drive) or footgolf (in Ruthin, 15 minutes). Walks in the Snowdonia National Park are around 45 minutes away, as are the sandy beaches of Rhyl, Prestatyn and Talacre. Castles? Of course there are a few nearby (you can’t go far in Wales without finding a castle…) Start in Denbigh (15 minutes’ drive), where you can also take a wander around the town’s ancient walls, then set your sights on family-friendly Bodelwyddan Castle (half an hour’s drive) and/or the imposing medieval fortress of Conwy Castle (45 minutes).
