General

  • Comfy site on a smallholding in the Conwy hills
  • A half-mile walk to village pub with grub
  • 30 mins to Snowdonia National Park; 20 to Colwyn Bay

Between the mountains and the sea, a stay on this quiet smallholding gives you space to consider your options.

Pant Y Rhedyn is 10 acres of meadow land in the hills of the Conwy valley. It's fresh air and views stretching from the Snowdonian mountains to the Irish Sea. It's also, in the midst of all this open space and nature, an extremely comfy spot to stay.

Roomy geodesic domes give you all-day views of the finest kind, from the morning mists to the sunsets and the night sky. There's a log fire to toast your toes inside and campfire to toast what you choose outside. After days of fresh air and nights of stargazing, you'll appreciate the beds (one double, two single sofa beds) and warm blankets. Morning cuppas can be brewed on the camping stove, and the kitchens have all that's necessary for a basic bit of nosh. Fridges, freezers and washing-up facilities are communal, but every dome comes with its own hot shower and toilet.

There's nothing like barbecuing some bangers on a fire while you sit under a canopy of stars and plan tomorrow's escapades. If you'd like things a little easier, the pub's a 10-minute walk or a five-minute drive down the road, serving up hot grub and local ales.

Everything was thought of after a long drive. The dome was big enough to be confortable as a family of four. The washing/shower/toilet facilities were brilliant and a massive step up form a normal campsite. Claire is lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. Brilliant break and we may go back!

Bundles of space around for the kids to explore in, Claire was super friendly and accommodating, and the kids loved seeing the animals.
Location is great too, being 20/25 mins drive away from some brilliant beaches for day trips too.

Accommodation spacious and great facilities. Home from home with cooking, fires in the dome and outside and power shower. Definitely glamping. Fantastic location with good views and very peaceful. Easy to get around to places nearby. Hosts very willing to go the extra mile. If you have young kids the animals are a definite attraction.

The site, domes and other facilities are all fantastic. You have your own kitchen/dining tent (equipped with everything you need to cook plus table and chairs), private toilet and separate shower, which felt very luxurious compared to previous camping experiences. There's also a communal area for washing up, charging devices and fridge/freezer, your own fire pit with log seating and picnic table. All areas are tastefully decorated and cleverly lit at night by timer operated fairy lights. The domes are spacious, comfortable and have a hard floor and a built-in doormat so no worrying about muddy puddles inside the tent! Everything has been really well thought out to avoid the usual irritations of camping!
Claire is extremely thoughtful and looks after all her guests very attentively throughout the stay. She spent lots of time with us talking over things to do and introducing our kids to the animals, as well as practical things like keeping our toilet fresh and topped up with loo rolls.
The pub served nice food and is a very short stroll away.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't great for us all the time (Storm Ellen struck towards the end of the week) and the domes do get a little noisy at night in high winds as would a tent (ear plugs might help for adults, although our kids and younger kids on the site slept through even the worst winds).
Overall we'd heartily recommend the domes as a great value, comfortable and different way to experience this spectacularly lovely part of the world.

Absolutely fabulous. Dome was lovely. Claire was so welcoming and had thought of everything. Fantastic location to explore the beautiful Conwy valley. Great to have private facilities plus fire pit and log burning stove. Peaceful. Nearby local pub with good food. Quite a step up from our normal camping - a bit of luxury after lockdown. 😃👍 Thank you!

Claire was a fantastic host - we couldn't have asked for anything else! Hamper with bread, butter, milk and welsh cakes on arrival and you could order breakfast each morning for a reasonable price. It can get quite cold in the dome at night once the fire had gone out but we did stay towards the end of October - there were plenty of blankets thought to keep us warm, a hot water bottle and Claire even brought us up a mini heater! The general atmosphere was so peaceful plus we had the place to ourselves! There is a local pub about a 5 minute walk away which was lovely.

Had a fantastic stay in bluebell dome on this charming out of the way small holding. Only 2 domes so it can never be crowded. The domes and facilities are all first class, I do believe Claire has thought of everything, and was a most obliging and pleasant host. Will certainly be back in spring!

Local attractions

You're in a plum spot here for activities both mountainous and coastal. Surf Snowdonia (30 minutes' drive) even combines the two, with a giant artificial wave lake on the edge of the mountains. The national park visitor centre (25 minutes) is a good port of call for tips and guides to this fabulous region of mountain railways, high peaks and waterfalls. Many hiking and biking trails of all lengths start right there.

If you want to hit the heights without huffing and puffing, the mountain railway takes you from Llanberis (50 minutes) to the top of Mount Snowdon, giving you staggering views all the way without you having to stagger anywhere. Heading seawards, the beach and traditional seaside attractions of Colwyn Bay are 20 minutes' drive away: stop driving when you hit the sea (obviously) and bag yourself a boat trip down the River Conwy or round the coast.

Nearby Bodnant Garden (15 minutes from site) is a bountiful National Trust site of horticultural history, wild meadows and walking trails. Those who want to see the trees from a different angle meanwhile should head to Zip World (50 minutes), nothing to do with trousers and everything to do with zooming down Europe's longest zipline, swinging on high ropes and bouncing on underground trampolines.
