  • Dog-friendly luxury accommodation a 20-minute drive from Colwyn Bay
  • Betws-y-Coed 25 minutes’ drive; Snowdon Massif 50 minutes
  • Private hot tub, plus massages, meals and pizza oven on request
A 20-minute drive from both Colwyn Bay (and the beaches of North Wales) and the mountains of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), Woody’s Glamping is a top spot for a luxury break. Guests here treat themselves to relaxing soaks in the private hot tubs, arrange for a cheeky massage to loosen up achy muscles or simply relax in the hammocks taking in the vast sky above. Each accommodation has its own outdoor space, plus a firepit and barbecue. There are plenty more options when it comes to on-site meals, such as the home-cooked full Welsh breakfast (served in a communal shack or delivered to your tent), picnic baskets and afternoon teas (on request) and the wood-fired pizza experience (where you get a pizza pack including a base, tomato sauce, cheese, and any other toppings plus use of the pizza oven). It might be wise to stock up on provisions en route to the site, as the nearest shop is in Llangernyw village (10 minutes’ drive); if you’re after a supermarket, head to Colwyn Bay or Llanrwst (20 minutes). After filling your belly, you might need to burn a few calories. Grab your dog (a welcome guest) and head north to walk the eight-mile Llanddulas Coastal Path (20 minutes). If you’re after something more challenging, see if you can tackle the peaks of Eryri, such as Crib Goch, Glyder Fawr (both 45 minutes) or Snowdon Massif (50 minutes). And if you can’t face the trek back down, no worries: you can catch the Snowdon Mountain Railway.

Route directions

If you are travelling along the A55, you might find that satnav tries to take you off at Junction 25 for Bodelwyddan; for a faster route, use either J24 for Abergele or J23 for Llanddulas. The postcode LL22 8RF on your satnav may take you to Meadow Sweet Glamping & Swn yr Afon; if that’s the case, with the house on your right, continue about 400 metres further down the lane on a sharp bend. If the house is on your left, you’ve gone too far. You can turn around at the top of the hill, where there is a gateway/drive. If you are driving from Snowdonia, follow the signs for Llanrwst on the A470, then the signs for Llangernyw on the A548.

Local attractions

Park your car at Llandudno Junction (20 minutes’ drive) and continue on foot to Conwy along the National Trust - Conwy Suspension Bridge, a spectacular Victorian construction. In town, visit the medieval castle and walk on the city walls, before exploring the Smallest House In Great Britain, a tiny fisherman’s cottage on the harbour. Betws-y-Coed (25 minutes) sits in the Conwy Valley, surrounded by lushly forested hills. Take the Tan Dinas Path, walking across the Pont-y-Pair Bridge and all the way to the dramatic Swallow Falls. After that, stop in the village for afternoon tea or face your vertigo head-on at Zip World Betws-y-Coed. If it’s thrills you’re after, Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (45 minutes) should deliver, with a zipwire reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. The aptly named Velocity (which is also the longest zipline in the UK) flies across a quarry lake, giving you far-reaching views of the surrounding landscape.
