  • Quiet adults-only and dog-friendly site four miles from the coast
  • A 20-minute drive from Rhyl and half an hour from Llandudno
  • Two pubs five minutes’ drive away in the village of Llanfair Talhaiarn
Time for take-off into North Wales? Then, strap yourself in at Tenting Campsite, an excellent base for your North Wales explorations. This isn’t a noisy place – quite the opposite, in fact. Quiet and basic but well-maintained, the site is designed for relaxation, and it’s certainly helped by the views of the Clwydian Range, Snowdonia, the Isle of Man and the Cumbrian Mountains (on a clear day). This spot is just four miles from the North Wales coast, scattered with seaside towns. If you’d like a hike before you go for a dip, the site recommends Moelfre Isaf, 20 minutes’ drive away. It’s a 317-metre climb to the top of the hill, which is just south of the town of Abergele. You might be hungry after that. If so, Llanfair Talhaiarn is the closest village, 45 minutes’ walk away (or a five-minute drive). As well as having splendid picture-taking spots, there are two pubs there which serve food. Basic facilities on site include a portable toilet, waste points, a large bin and water. There are plenty of local walks to get out on before relaxing back in the mowed field.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Nice low cost for a single traveler with a small tent, as some other campsites charge you the same as if you were a large family with a massive tent for a pitch. Campfires allowed. Dogs allowed. Not far from the coast.

Disliked: No signposting at road junctions. Both toilets were overflowing and needed emptying. Couldn't find labeled drinkable tap water, only loo flush water in stillage and chem loo flush hose. Rubbish bin overflowing.
