  • Spectacularly scenic riverside park in the Tanat Valley
  • Hikes directly from the site and Lake Bala 13 miles away
  • Two dog-friendly pubs within walking distance
Cor. Have a look at this site’s setting: parked alongside the Tanat river and surrounded by peaks in the spectacularly scenic Tanat Valley in mid Wales’ Berwyn Mountains, it’s right near the pretty village of Llangynog, where the Tanat and Eirth rivers meet. And there’s more: right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, Henstent Park’s surrounds are not only scenic but they're also handily set for jaunts to the market towns of Welshpool and Oswestry, plus the Vyrnwy and Bala lakes. The smashing views are 360 here – at every turn you’ll see grass, trees and mountains – and as the site’s bordered by a river, there’s the option to have a go at fishing nearby. This is a smashing site for walkers too: several hiking trails lead directly from the site and it’s a three-hour trek (or a 20-minute drive) up to Wales’ highest waterfall, Pistyll Rhaeadr. A gated dog walk runs alongside the riverbank (and one dog-friendly pub is within easy walking distance). The bathroom block – with free hot showers – has been hailed by previous guests as immaculate and spotless.

What customers say

Beautiful, serene campsite in stunning scenery with a river. Guests rave about spotless facilities, friendly staff, and well-kept pitches, many by the river. Great for dog owners, with excellent walks. Local pub nearby. Minor Wi-Fi/dishwashing quibbles, but overwhelmingly positive with many wanting to return.

Staff lovely.

Liked Friendly reception from the owners. Immaculate facilities and knowing that I had a muddy day in the hills after I checked out, they even offered their showers when I was finished!

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review.

We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the friendly welcome. It’s great to know the facilities met your expectations and that everything was nice and clean during your visit.

We’re also glad we could help after your day out in the hills — sometimes a hot shower after a muddy walk makes all the difference!

Thanks again for staying with us and for sharing your photo. We hope to welcome you back to Henstent Park again in the future.

Liked Spotlessly clean facilities, level pitches and very friendly staff good prices aswel.
Not a down side but you need to have a towcar or small camper van to get around if using as a base narrow roads on route,
Would return if needed a safe clean friendly site.

Liked WOW what a gem ! warm welcome on our arrival this site is immaculate.
Our motorhome pitch was lovely the river literally ran behind us with stunning mountain views. facilities were very clean with hot showers. For dog owners the off lead dog field was massive our lad loved it with his ball. Pub only a 10 mins walk along the river. This site is a credit to the wardens who keep it immaculate , we will defiantly return.

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike just going home

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely welcome. We were given a hard standing with Astro turf although we had booked a grass pitch. This proved to be better as we had some rain and we were quite sheltered. Our awning pitched well on the Astro turf too. Great views, river side, beautiful shower/toilet block. They were very clean and warm. Brilliant dog field which we often had to ourselves. Our dog was able to have a really good run. A great start to our holiday.

Disliked Nothing to dislike!

Local attractions

Several walks lead directly from the site, and you can lace up your boots, pack up a picnic and hike the eight miles up to Wales’ highest waterfall, Pistyll Rhaeadr if you’re feeling particularly energised. Other outdoorsy pursuits within easy reach include horse riding, fishing and cycling… And as the site is right near Llangynog village, you’re also well placed for challenging and spectacularly scenic bike rides around the Milltir Cerrig mountain pass along the B4391, which runs between Llan Ffestiniog and Llanfyllin. If you fancy checking out the area’s lakes, the route over the mountain to Bala – 90 minutes’ bike ride or 25 minutes by car – is a highly scenic one, and at the end you’ll be greeted by lots of watery sports such as canoeing, windsurfing and whitewater rafting, or climbing, hiking, cycling, abseiling, archery and campcraft if you’d prefer to stay dry. Lake Vwrnwy is an easy half hour away.
