  • Relaxed and rural dog-friendly site with plenty of space and seclusion
  • A 10-minute walk to Llangammarch Wells and its train station
  • Heart of Wales Line Trail and the Via Beata route within 10 minutes
Fancy opting for something a little more offbeat than usual for your next trip to Mid Wales? Enter the eclectic Irfon Valley Pods and Camping, part of a smallholding scattered with curios collected by the owner. Free-roaming chickens, geese and ducks are also to be seen in the adjacent field at this park a 10-minute walk from the centre of Llangammarch Wells. In fact, it’s all about the relaxed rural pursuits here with guests taking on activities including walking in the wildlife-rich surrounds, dining alfresco on the site’s picnic tables and cosying up around the large campfire with eyes turned skyward in search of the red kites that often fly overhead. As for travelling to this Powys park, those without a car will be chuffed to know they can ask the driver of the bus from Builth Wells (15 minutes’ drive) to drop them right at the front door. The entrance of the site is easy to spot – just look out for the couple of cutout giraffes peering over the fence. A railway station is half a mile away too and the village has access points to two long-distance footpaths: the 140-mile Heart of Wales Line Trail and the Via Beata route from Lowestoft in Suffolk to St Davids in Pembrokeshire. There's a smart loo block on site with three toilets, a shower and three washing-up sinks. There's also a communal room with games and a shared fridge, microwave and kettle. There's also an outdoor cold shower.

What customers say

A great, peaceful, friendly site with clean, characterful facilities. Thoughtful extras like the games room and toy shed are a hit. No vehicles on the field is a bonus for families. Beautiful rural setting. More campervan parking and cooking facilities are needed.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Friendly welcome from hosts on arrival who showed us where everything was. Lovely campsite with good facilities - the dishwashing area is decorated with great paintings and planting, site bordered by trees. No cars on the camping field which is good - wheelbarrows provided for getting equipment to pitch which worked really well. Lovely to see the geese and hens on site (not in the camping field). In a dark sky area - I was blown away by the stars late at night. Very good value for money

Disliked Nothing - loved this site

Buttercup cabin

Liked Such a nice stay! Very quiet which we thought was strange due to it being the summer holidays, only one other family staying! Very clean and well kept, both inside the cabin and outside. Friendly hosts. We came here to get some peace and quiet for one night from a chaotic life back home and this was definitely what we had!

Sunflower camping pod

Liked Good location, very beautiful area.
Clean pods and facilities.

Disliked Only dislike is that there is no separation between pods to let our dog free/not meet other dogs outside the pods.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Daiana.
Sorry, we don't have plans to fully enclose the individual pod areas for dogs.
However, as the current young hedges between each pod and cabin mature, the feeling of privacy will increase.

Really good experience we would visit again :)

Liked Lovely location, pleasant surroundings, clean loos, the beds were fine I slept well. Friendly welcome. The huts give just enough room inside. We made friends there which was nice too :)

Disliked My tent leaked!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review. Sorry about your leaky tent - there’s nothing quite like a wet tent inside, unless it’s packing away a wet tent!
Of course, it doesn’t rain much in Wales, so it’s a rare occurrence…!

Daisy cabin

Liked Lovely site, really well run and looked after. Loads of character, very clean and lots of amenities.
Dog friendly, our two had a lovely time.
No vehicles on the camping field so super safe for kids and very quiet. Enormous barrows provided for lugging bags etc between car park and accommodation worked brilliantly.
Thoroughly recommended

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Perfect campsite! This was our second time visiting and definitely won’t be our last. The facilities are always clean and tiny and the addition of the big fridge/freezer is great! We had a lovely warm welcome and all interactions with the owners over our stay were the same. The kids loved the toy shed and we made use of the scrabble in the evenings which was lovely. It’s lovely having on cars in the camping field especially with young children. Highly recommend this site! It’s in the most beautiful area and is never overcrowded.

From the manager: Thank you Erin for your review, which is much appreciated. Lovely photos too!
We're pleased you enjoyed the facilities, and having no cars on the actual camping area. We hope to see you again!

Local attractions

Stunning views are to be had at every turn on short drives to spots like Llanwrtyd Wells (10 minutes), home of the laughter-inducing World Bog Snorkelling Championships and Man versus Horse Marathon. Builth Wells (15 minutes) is also known for hosting a famed event: Europe's largest agricultural show, the Royal Welsh Show. Not about in the summer while it’s on? Embark on an escapade to the Elan Valley (35 minutes) instead for dawdles among the dams and lakes that supply water to the Midlands. The Brecon Beacons National Park is around the same distance away for wanders in some of Wales’ prettiest landscapes; closer by (10 minutes) are forays to the forest of Crychan, which also hosts car rallies and horse riding events.
