  • Peaceful site on a private estate with listed buildings
  • A 10-minute drive to Crickhowell and 35 minutes to Hay-on-Wye
  • Five-mile stretch of the River Usk for salmon and trout fishing
A peaceful Powys stay, with stunning surroundings and stacks of space? Make your way to Glanusk Caravan Park, where relaxing stays can be had in the historic grounds of Glanusk Estate, one of Wales’ largest privately owned estates. It's also rather gorgeous, with a fine collection of features like walled gardens and Celtic standing stones to wander around, and listed buildings including the splendid turreted Tower Bridge over the River Usk. And it’s not just the views right there on site that are pretty special – the estate is surrounded by the epic scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and has spectacular views up to the Black Mountains too. Country pursuits like cycling, pony trekking and canoeing can all be had nearby, and there’s easy access to these and other outings via the nearby A40 and B4558. Spending time on site is an equally fine prospect however – and that goes for dogs too, who are most welcome to join you here. Fishing for trout and salmon is available on the five-mile private stretch of the River Usk. Ask on site about local ambles too – one member of the team is a Brecon Beacons Ambassador and has lots more suggestions up their sleeves. For a short stroll, head towards the award-winning high street in the town of Crickhowell (40 minutes away on foot) to source provisions from the butcher's shop, bakery and restaurants or browse boutiques for antiques, clothes, gifts and books. Too far? Stay on site and order a luxury hamper packed with locally produced goodies – let the team here know in advance and they'll sort out delivery to your pitch. Back at the park, an amenity building has disabled facilities, showers, underfloor heating, toiletries, towels and hairdryers; other amenities include waste disposal areas, dog and bike-washing points, and wifi.

What customers say

Beautiful, tidy, and very clean site in stunning scenery. Praised for peace, spacious pitches, and great amenities like a sauna. Lots of walks from the site along the canal/river. Wi-Fi can be weak, showers small for some. Management resolved occasional noise issues.

Liked Beautiful site sandwiched between hills, with the river Usk flowing through the estate and a canal alongside the road. Directions and info were emailed directly on booking. Pitch allocations are chalked up on a board at the entrance gate.
Very tidy, very clean, all mowed and flat, everything neat and considered. There is a picnic bench and a fire ring area. Bathroom block is immaculate, with a towel radiator outside the shower room to warm it up in the morning. There is a sauna pod! (I didn't use it as the weather was pretty hot) Only sounds were the birds (so many species) and the sheep in the next field. There is a field for dogs to run. Access signposted to a walk in the woods and to a 'beach'which isn't a beach it's just a spot where you could in theory wade into the shallow river - but it's a steep bank so I wouldn't take kids down there. Lots of information on the notice board about local things. Free wifi worked fine.

Disliked For such a spacious estate, the pitches are quite close together. I estimate maybe 5m metres between EHUs. Acceptable, but I think they could have used their available space a bit more generously! The managers did seem to have spaced out which pitches they booked arrivals onto so I only had a neighbour on one side, but obviously sometimes it might be full. I did have 2 tents of chaps right behind me in the middle and they weren't partic noisy men at all but still would rather they weren't so close to hear all their convos.

Liked Good customer service for starters. I was running late, phoned ahead, got a friendly answer on the other end.

Access is easy and well signposted coming from the A465 side. Track is fairly well maintained considering the conditions.

Campsite is reasonably sized and well located. Whilst the view isn’t super scenic it’s a quiet yet spacious area, with the sound of the river coming gently from behind the trees.

As a lorry driver I was thoroughly impressed with the shower and toilet facilities. Spotlessly clean, all in working order and well laid out.

Disliked Nothing other than I only had time to stay a single night.

Route directions

Access to Glanusk Caravan Park is via the gates on the B4558 (Cwm Crawnon Road) as there is no access to the site from the A40. If you are approaching from the Brecon direction on the A40, do not turn right at Bwlch towards Llangynidr to access the site, as this will take you to a very narrow and impassable bridge. Instead, carry on past the main gates of the site, then turn right by the petrol station and head over the Crickhowell Bridge before turning right onto the B4558 (Cwm Crawnon Road).
