A Powys pop-up site where you can park the car and then spend your days exploring on foot? That’s the deal at Camp Crick, in the gorgeous Usk Valley 10 minutes’ stroll from the pretty and historic market town of Crickhowell. The views from here are fine indeed – the site looks out at the Sugar Loaf and Table Mountain, with Llangattock Mountain behind. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal runs past the fields too, for easy access to miles of safe cycling and walking along the towpath. For more walking options there are plenty of trails that lead off up into the mountains (see if you can find the very rare floating bog below the escarpment on Llangattock Mountain…) The car’s unlikely to see much action at all around here, in fact – that proximity to town means that you can easily walk to Crickhowell’s independent shops, cafés and pubs (and in fact there are a couple of pubs offering great food even closer in the village of Llangattock). Naturally, the team here have an interest in preserving this pretty part of the world, so they’ve set the site up as an eco-friendly off-grid place to stay. Generously sized pitches are tucked away within the hedges and well spaced so you’ll have plenty of room to soak up the surrounds and look out for the wildlife (resident tawny owls and buzzards are often seen, along with a wide range of songbirds). Facilities include compost loos (with biodegradable loo roll provided), cold showers and washing-up stations using spring water (you’ll need to boil it before drinking). There’s no parking by pitches (in order to preserve the peace and the wild flowers), but trailers and wheelbarrows are provided to haul your kit.

Relaxing, eco-friendly site with roomy, private spots, fire pits & great views. Staff are friendly & helpful. Short walk to Crickhowell & amenities, with canal/hill walks. Basic but charming facilities. Some lumpy pitches/comms issues, but most guests loved it & want to return.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked We love Camp Crick so returned for a second time. The simple facilities, eco-character and setting give a great sense of escape. Close to Crickhowell and good access to the Black Mountains.

Disliked For the second year in a row we had a night disturbed by a loud group on the big pitch. Camp Crick doesn't appear to have enforced quiet hours. Even though the site is not lit, is clearly a quiet, relaxing eco-site and all other visitors were tucked up in their tents, both last year and this a group saw fit to party on late, with as far I could tell no intervention from the wardens.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great location and had everything we needed. The toilets are constructed of pallets over a big hole, but honestly they are cleaner than most of the campsites I've stayed in and in no way detracted from our stay. Cool showers also perfect for the warm weather! Thank you for a great stay, hope to return again

Liked Absolutely stunning location. lovely basic facilities and friendly welcoming staff. Dare I say the perfect campsite.
Location is perfect, walking distance into Crickhowell and the local village with a lovely pub. The highlight for us was the access to the canal. staff helped us move our paddle boards up the hill to the canal. definitely will return

Liked Camped here for two nights night with my son (8 yo), on our annual father-son trip. A very warm welcome and help getting our stuff from the car to the pitch. Lovely site, the car didn't move as we walked everywhere including the 4 hour round trip up Crug Hywel and back. A great place to sit by the fire and watch it get dark. We'd come back.
