What customers say

Cwm Wye provides a peaceful, secluded wild camping experience with plenty of space. Guests love the eco-friendly approach, clean facilities with hot showers and compost toilets, and the friendly owners. It's great for nature lovers with woodland and river access, plus fire pits. Basic but well-regarded facilities. Minor slopes and signage issues noted, but very positive overall, with many planning to return.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The campsite, the hosts, the facilities, the river access and value for money were all exceptional. They have only been going for 3 years and have already developed the site very well. Highly recommend.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Nice views, close to the river, Spacious pitches. Good communal area with open facilities, free firewood

Disliked Lack of sink or other washing facility rather than one sink for the whole campsite. Long waiting times just to wash your hands. Showers next to each other, lack of privacy

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I’m sorry you felt this way about our site 😢
This is only our 3rd season so we are adding things to our campsite every year and the plan is to add an extra sink for next year as we have become more busy. Our showers are designed so you don’t feel in a normal concrete shower block that you get to experience showering in the woodland but we do understand that this might feel not so private so we will look into adding something there without taking away the experience so many other people love. Thank you for you’re review 😊

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked We have stayed here for 3 nights and we enjoyed very much. All the places were very big and natural. We (and everyone) had a lot of space around the camper or tent. We had a nice view, we could swim in the river and in the forest next to the camping children could play and meet each other. It was very silent and very dark at night. The toilets were very well marked by suncells. Everything was ‘back to nature, ecofriendly, but also made very convenient and clear for everyone. That’s what you want when you are camping. Very Good!!! Thank you!!!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The site is so peaceful & tranquil, time stands still. Cym Wye is the perfect antidote to a very stressful life, surrounded by Mother Nature in all her wonderful glory. The warmest of welcomes from the owner, who always has time to chat & suggest places to visit or things to do. Eco friendly in every way, but in no way does this compromise facilities or cleanliness, spotless compost toilets & hot showers tucked away in the woods. Surrounded by the woods, the river, the sheep & clean, fresh Welsh air, you could ask for nothing more from Cym Wye. The owners have thought of everything, from solar lights in the woods lighting the paths, to wheelbarrows to move your tent etc from car to pitch, to a fire pit for cooking under the trees. Sshhhh, don’t tell anyone incase it gets busy!😘

Disliked Having to leave! 😥

Local attractions

Even if you’re not tackling the full 136-mile length of the Wye Valley Walk, your walking boots are likely to be in for a good workout around here. You could, of course, just choose a section of the long-distance path to wander along, or you could take a gentle stroll around Cors y Llyn National Nature Reserve (10 minutes’ drive). The Elan Valley (25 minutes) makes a great destination for a day or two of walking – it’s got about 70 square miles of gorgeous countryside to wander through, with lakes and dams to focus on, and lots of wildlife to spot. Stop by at the Red Kite Feeding Station in Rhayader (20 minutes) en route to have a closer encounter with these fabulous birds. Perhaps a wild swim too? Head to FARMERS' Welsh Lavender Ltd (25 minutes) for that, and a café. For other days out nearby, see what’s on at the Royal Welsh Showground (10 minutes), take a wander around the streets of Victorian-era Llandrindod Wells (15 minutes), perhaps stopping in at the National Cycle Museum, or keep the kids busy with a trip to the pool in Builth Wells or some indoor play time at Quackers (both 10 minutes).
