  • Woodland park site in Mid Wales, five mins' drive from Builth Wells
  • Half an hour's drive from Elan Valley; 40 minutes from Brecon Beacons
  • Communal kitchen, pizza oven and firepit; games room and playground
Well-earned rest or Royal Welsh Show, hiking the Beacons or bookshop mooching... it’s all here. Here’s a spot fit for royalty, a five-minute drive from Builth Wells, home of the Royal Welsh Show. Celtic Woodland Holiday Park is close to town, but surrounded by 10 acres of wooded parkland; you’ll feel both away from it all and at the centre of everything. There’s a lot on site to ensure your stay’s a comfortable one, much of it handily packed into a single hub. There are bathrooms with a walk-in shower, and everyone has access to the fridge and microwave oven in the communal kitchen and the firepit and pizza oven outside. The hub is also home to a games room, with pool, table tennis and air hockey, as well as a stock of books, magazines and DVDs. For those with an urge to hurtle about, the kids’ playground has swings and slides for the smallest guests and a wooden fort for the larger ones. Those itching to get out and explore Mid Wales can hit trails through the surrounding woodland; head into Builth Wells, meanwhile, and you can walk paths along the River Wye as far as the mouth of the river in Chepstow, 136 miles away (although perhaps best not to attempt that in one day).

Primitive tent campsite

Liked ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had an amazing weekend camping here and can't recommend it enough!

The site is beautifully maintained, peaceful, and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The wooden park was fantastic, especially for the children, and the kitchen and games room were a brilliant addition.

One of our favourite parts was the beautifully lit forestry walk leading to the tent pitches – it created such a lovely atmosphere in the evenings. Each pitch also had its own bench and BBQ set up, which made cooking and relaxing so easy.

The whole site felt welcoming, clean, and thoughtfully designed. We made some wonderful memories and will definitely be returning. Thank you for such a fantastic stay! 🌿🏕️✨

Cabin (woodland, family)

Liked Everything!
Silence, stars, woodland pod with space (like wild camping but wooden hut with stove) and felt safe.
Short walk along the river to other gorgeous walks. Me & my dog loved it!
Thank you! We'll be back! Hopefully in the treehouse next time 😊

Disliked Leaving 😂

Local attractions

The annual Royal Welsh Show draws crowds to Builth Wells every July, but there are events at the showground throughout the year. Whether the circus is in town or not, it’s a place worth wandering, as well as being stocked with pubs, eateries and supermarkets: pick up a picnic and make for The Groe, a fab riverside park to scoff your sandwiches among views of the 18th-century Wye Bridge. For bigger walks, along with mountain biking, angling and nature spotting, head half an hour to the Elan valley, an area of lakes, hills and rivers dubbed the Welsh Lake District. To see nature close up, visit the Red Kite Feeding Station in Rhyader (25 minutes from site) to see an array of hungry raptors swooping by for their rations. The peaks and moors, waterfalls and castles of the Brecon Beacons are similarly handy for day trips. To see the heights without the huffing and puffing, head an hour’s drive to Pant for a seat on the Brecon Mountain Railway. Equally doable in a day are the beaches, watersports and coastal walks around Aberystwyth, an hour and 20 minutes away. If you're more into surfing the bookshelves, it’s half an hour to Hay-on-Wye, home of the famed literary festival and some two dozen booksellers.
