Fancy a taste of real Welsh farming life? Take off to Camp y Mwldan, a quiet site in the Ceredigion countryside about a mile from the village of Penparc.
Llwyn Llwyd Fach, which hosts the site, has quite the history – the cottage was built in the 18th century, and in the 1970s it was turned into a smallholding selling goats’ milk and Jersey milk. Over the years it’s been home to pigs, sheep, suckler cattle and stud dogs (including sheepdogs and poodles) but for the past 20 years it’s been run as a horse stud farm, breeding Welsh cobs, Irish draughts, ponies and donkeys.
It’s here that you’ll settle in on simple grass pitches that have plenty of space to get your barbecue or firepit going safely and put up an awning or gazebo for a bit of shelter. Facilities cover all the basics: you’ll have access to a toilet/shower cabin, a chemical disposal point, a drinking water supply, a washing-up area and a wifi service.
Dogs are welcome here, and there are plenty of places nearby to get out for a good walk on footpaths and quiet lanes. Grocery shops and petrol stations are in the village (which is on the A487 main road) and there are lots more shops, plus some great places to eat, in Cardigan, 10 minutes’ drive away.
