  • Quiet family-friendly campsite 10 minutes’ drive from Cardigan Bay
  • Direct access to Wales Coast Path; Cei Bach Beach 10 minutes’ drive
  • Dogs welcome; licensed bistro, farm shop and a play barn on site
Sitting between the seaside towns of Aberaeron and New Quay, Bargoed Farm is a family-run site 10 minutes’ drive from spectacular Cardigan Bay in Ceredigion. And not only is it family-run, it’s also very family-friendly, with a whole host of facilities to make life easy on site. These include a farm shop for topping up on supplies, a licensed bistro for those days when you can’t be bothered to spark up the barbecue and a play barn to keep kids safely occupied. The level, tree-lined pitches are all fully serviced with a lawned area for sitting out. Thoughtful additions in the shower block (it has disabled facilities) include hair dryers and a laundrette, and should you be bringing dogs with you, there’s also a dedicated dog wash area for cleaning muddy paws. With easy access off the A487, this quiet site is a convenient base for exploring Ceredigion, its beaches, historic sites and wildlife – watch out for red kites inland and dolphins in Cardigan Bay. A footpath leads from the site to the village of Llwyncelyn (10 minutes’ stroll), and a short walk from there takes you onto the scenic Wales Coast Path… You won’t need a car to explore the area, but a good pair of walking boots is essential.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass campsite (hot tub, lake view)

Liked: Nice hot tub, clean , well maintained and lovely lake side views. Facilities are really good for kids on the park

Disliked: Was told by shop assistant wasn’t a dog walking area which almost spoiled things as a 6 hour drive is a long time for my dog not to have good excercise however there is a really large area via a gate next to car park all staff need an awareness of this facility .. pitches were ok but the park just wasn’t really for us too many children and I guess that our preference but due to this and the very high over priced pitch cost at £75 a night plus the fact I couldn’t rearrange my one night booking due to illness I wouldn’t return however with a family and a hot tub it’s a great park

FHU cement/asphalt and grass campsite (large)

Liked: Loved the restaurant and the bar, farm shop. The Toilet block and shower block were always clean and a really well kept site.

Disliked: With coming with young children they wanted a park to play on especially being on a campsite. But to access the park you had to pay to get into the play centre which was £13 for 2 children and no discount was added for staying at the site. I understood that it was open to the public but mine didn’t want to go in the soft play they just wanted to go on the park.
They also used the trampolines which was a nice touch, but again not discounted with staying there which was £22 for a hour.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass campsite (large)

Liked: Site was nice and clean

Disliked: Extortionate prices on everything
Charged extra £17.50 per person to see the show on Saturday night which was supposed to be from 7pm til 12
However didn’t start till 8pm was finished and gone by 10.30 pm
Definitely needs more entertainment
Probably suited to the retired as dead boring

Local attractions

Take forays along the Wales Coast Path (direct access from the site), or pack a picnic and march the family down to sand-and-shingle Cei Bach Beach (50 minutes’ stroll/10 minutes’ drive) to see if you can spot dolphins playing in the waves. If the kids catch the wildlife bug, take them to see the birds of prey and butterfly house at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (55 minutes’ drive), where they can also encounter giant animal sculptures on lakeside walks. Learn more about the history of this corner of Ceredigion with a visit to the National Wool Museum (25 minutes), housed in an historic mill packed with original spinning looms; there are entertaining craft workshops for families. Fans of the combustion engine can see 19th-century machines in motion at The Internal Fire Museum of Power (20 minutes), giving an insight into the development of steam power. Staying with the heritage theme, tour the handsome John Nash-designed villa and lakeside gardens at National Trust - Llanerchaeron (10 minutes). If your offspring need an antidote to all that history, the crescent-shaped sandy beach at New Quay (10 minutes’ drive) has rock pools for crabbing and is backed by ice cream stalls and cafés.
