  • Family-centric Perthshire holiday park at the gateway to the Highlands
  • Located in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park
  • Direct access to the scenic Rob Roy Way and The Golden Larches Café
If you’re up for steeping yourself in the myths and legends surrounding notorious Scottish outlaw Rob Roy, you can do exactly that from Perthshire’s Balquhidder Braes Holiday Park. The lochs, rivers and glens around Balquhidder are closely associated with the MacGregor clan and the final resting place of the big man himself is in Balquhidder Kirkyard, five minutes’ drive away at the head of Loch Voil. There are many other reasons for staying at this family-run holiday park too, of course. It sits within the stunning Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, surrounded by an abundance of wildlife, with red squirrels, deer, otters and osprey regularly spotted both on and around the site. Facilities include separate shower blocks for men and women, a washing-up area and Elsan disposal area. Pets are welcome, and a forest walk can be directly accessed from the pitches for stretching of legs both human and canine. Despite its peaceful location among trees, the park is easy to get to, straight off the A84 between Strathyre and Lochearnhead (both five minutes’ drive). The cute village of Killin (15 minutes) on the shores of Loch Tay has shops plus a smattering of pubs and eateries, but if you’d rather stick closer to base camp, The Golden Larches Café is right across the road from the pitches.

Liked The staff were lovely! The location was amazing, we had the best chilled weekend. Very quiet & so relaxing! The toilet block is quite possibly the best one we’ve came across yet! The park its self is very clean and tidy. Good for walks & a bit of history about the old railway. Definitely great if you’re looking to unwind. Will be back!!

Disliked Having to leave!!

Green powered gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Nice space in less busy end of the site and ideal for a transit stop. Excellent price point too, especially with EHU included. Passing traffic / motor cycle noise from A84 dies off into the evening.

From the manager: Hi Allan,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your stay with us.

We’re really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the quieter location of your pitch and found it ideal for a convenient stopover. It’s great to know you felt the pricing offered good value too, especially with the electric hook-up included.

We appreciate your comments regarding the nearby road noise. As you noted, it does tend to settle down in the evening, but we understand it may be noticeable at times and thank you for highlighting this for future guests.

It’s wonderful to hear that you would recommend us and consider returning—we’d be delighted to welcome you back again.

Safe travels,
Gerry

Local attractions

As well as being burial place of Rob Roy, Balquhidder is known for its scenic walking and cycling routes, with the Rob Roy Way and Old Glen Ogle Railway Line (the latter leads to ponds where you may spot otters) accessed from the park as well as National Cycle Network Route 7. If you’d care to bag a Munro (mountain over 3,000 feet), Stob Binnein and Ben More are about 20 minutes’ drive away. Sporting types can fish on the lochs and rivers, and pick up fishing tackle and permits in Callander (also 20 minutes’ drive). You can go pony trekking through the gorgeous Perthshire countryside from Castle Rednock Trekking Centre (half an hour), where there are also Segway trails for non-equestrians. Golf-wise, you have a choice of five local courses; the National Park Golf Pass offers visitors to the national park the opportunity to play on all of them. If you’d like to spend a day on the water, you can hire paddleboards, kayaks and wakeboards from Loch Earn Wakeschool (five minutes). If you happen to hit a rainy day, simply decamp to the indoor pool at the McLaren Leisure Centre in Callander, where there’s also a sauna and steam room.
