  • Peaceful family-run park in a handy location on the edge of Kinross
  • Loch Leven 10 minutes’ drive, and Perth city centre 20 minutes
  • Play park and communal bothy on site, plus a woodland dog-walking area
Now here’s a handy location indeed for seeing lots of Scottish sights all in one break – Gallowhill Camping and Caravan Park is on the edge of Kinross, an excellent Perthshire spot for getting out to explore the likes of Edinburgh, Stirling, St Andrews and Perth. In fact, the park is pretty much in the centre of the area bounded by these four cities, with none of them more than an hour’s drive away. The M90 (running north-south) and A91 (east-west) are both close by, so journeys should be fairly straightforward – and the proximity of the roads also makes this a useful park to consider if you need a stopover on a longer journey. Having Kinross town centre just down the road (about 20 minutes’ walk/five minutes’ drive) means that you can easily use the park-and-ride services to travel around without driving, and there are plenty of amenities close by, including supermarkets, takeaways and places to eat out. Loch Leven is 10 minutes’ drive away for fishing and walks/bike rides on the 13-mile lakeside trail. It’s not just a handy location for travel, though – the park itself is well set up too, with facilities including a play park and an area for football. There’s also a bothy (good for hunkering down in wet weather) with tourist info, kettle, microwave and phone charger points. Laundry facilities are provided as well, along with toilets, showers and a separate accessible bathroom. Dogs are welcome at Gallowhill, and there’s a private woodland exercise area where they can have a good run about.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked My Husband and I are just home from a lovely weekend here. The site is lovely, the owners are lovely and friendly. It was quiet even with little kids playing around as there is so much room for them and a nice wee play park, the shower block I believe is being upgraded soon but tbh I’ve been in worse campsite showers. We had the perfect weather too. Thank you for a lovely weekend

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The wooden picnic benches and the bothy! The benches made life so much easier for us with two young children! As non-electric campers having the bothy to use to boil water for morning coffee and a microwave to heat things up quickly for hungry mouths was a win.

Lots of space for kids to run around, frisby, kick a ball etc. Campsite good location to lay our heads for the night and explore surrounding areas during the day (Kinross, loch Leven, Cupar)

Owners very friendly, would definitely return.

Disliked Lots of people complaining about the pound coins for showers - obviously I would rather they were free lol but I found it to be adequate for a nice shower after a hard day of exploring. Take a spare pound coin incase you need longer then 8mins x

Alan was great! Straight forward site. No hot shower & not pre-warned

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Near to motorway & helpfulness of Alan

Disliked It wasn’t advertised I had to pay extra for hot water! It says facilities so I’d expect it to be included! Not impressed as when I arrive & pay, it’s too late! Very naughty!

Good for a stop over quiet and spacious but not for long term tenting

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lots of space, very quiet aside from some loud kids and very shouty oyster catchers. Lovely countryside feel. Lovely park .

Disliked Very dirty toilets and shower block. Very happy to pay a £1 a shower of the shower is clean but was mouldy and dirty and often left on, so immediately started when money added so often left with just 4 minutes to shower. It was costing us £4 a day for showers so woukd likely pay a wee but more to stay somewhere else with free and clean facilities . Rubbish drifting around park and toilet blocks.

A great site for us as a stop over we travel north.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Very handy for traveling on the m90. For being so close to the motorway the road noise wasn't bad at all. We stayed for 3 nights and could have stayed longer had we not been traveling home.

The site is good for families with kids too, with some swings, a seesaw,.sand pit and plenty of room for a kick around.

Very dog friendly with a dog walk are just off the site.

We will probably be booking next year as we travel home from visiting friends.

Disliked The only real issue was the coin slot for the showers outside of the shower area, other sites have the slot inside the changing area. But tbh it didn't really bother me.

Very friendly folks!…

Local attractions

Get to know Perth (20 minutes’ drive) on a self-guided Treasure Hunt Trail, or head further afield to the historic university town of St Andrews (50 minutes), which pulls in visitors to explore the cathedral and castle, or play golf on the fabled Old Course. When big-city lights come calling, head for the museums, art galleries and upscale shops of Edinburgh (55 minutes). You’ll be in pole position to learn something of Scottish history at Gallowhill; Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in foreboding waterside Lochleven Castle (10 minutes) in 1567, while Scone Palace (half an hour) was once the crowning place of Scottish kings and is now open for guided tours of lush interiors. Former home of King James IV, Stirling Castle (45 minutes) has an ornate Great Hall restored to its 16th-century splendour and interactive displays in its Victorian-era kitchens. If you’re rather potter about in the fresh air, stride across Fife hillsides in Lomond Hills Regional Park (25 minutes), or try archery and axe-throwing at Kinross Activity Centre (10 minutes). Keen on wildlife? You can often see red squirrels near the visitor centre at RSPB Loch Leven (10 minutes).
