  • Small, quiet and family-friendly site at the foot of Ben Nevis
  • A five-minute drive to mountain biking trails in the Nevis Range
  • Access to a salmon fishing river; Fort William 10 minutes' drive;
Mountain biking in the Nevis Mountain range and sleeping at the foot of Ben Nevis? Oh, go on then… Great Glen Yurts is at the foot of Ben Nevis. Just five minutes’ drive away from the mountain biking trails at the Nevis Range Mountain Resort, this is a right spot for outdoor adventures in the Highlands and Islands. Dedicate your days to climbing and walking the north face of Ben Nevis or messing around in the nearby mountain bikers' playground, which has trails for all abilities, including a family-friendly downhill trail. If you want to switch up the slopes for the water, Fort William is 10 minutes’ drive away. The town has shops, restaurants and a cinema if you’re planning a lazier day or only setting out to gather supplies. There are plenty of local companies who run watersports like sea kayaking, white water rafting, canyoning and paddleboarding around the Highlands and Islands. The gorgeous family farm on which you’ll be based also borders a salmon fishing river with great swimming spots a short walk away. With facilities like a communal shower and a toilet block with plenty of hot water (bring your own towels), things are nice and cosy at Great Glen Yurts. There’s a communal barrel barbecue (bring your own charcoal) and a firepit in the middle of the field (no firewood is provided, so you’ll get to scavenge for your own in the woods). Dogs are very welcome too, just as long as they’re kept on a lead near livestock.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Brilliantly basic. Amazing location and outlook with magnificent views of the North Corrie of Ben Nevis.

The camping field was lovely, flat and free of stones making pitching easy. The facilities whilst basic were brilliantly quirky with a heavy zen budist influence.

Camp kitchen option to plug in a Keller and charge my phone Like…

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great location for exploring the Nevis area and very close to the East Highway Way.
Camped in my tent for one night - only other residents were some friendly horses and sheep in the adjacent field.

2 x showers and toilets - very clean.
Washing up area.
Separate kitchens (think these maybe an additional charge to hire out - please check).
Mobile signal was fine too.

Liked We loved the facilities and the location of this adorable site. The owners were really accommodating and met us to welcome us when we got here. I would recommend hiring the kitchen as it has everything you could need. Showers were a brilliant size and the view was amazing to wake up to. We loved our stay and will recommend it to friends.

Local attractions

To Fort William (10 minutes’ drive), first and foremost? There are watersports, wildlife spotting boat trips and access to the Great Glen Way, which runs for 79 miles past lochs, canals and mountains. Those who fancy a strong alcoholic tipple after all of that can head to the Ben Nevis Distillery (five minutes), where there are tours involving tastings of the popular Ben Nevis malt whiskies. The stunning coastline (and access to the Inner Hebrides) begins from around 45 minutes’ drive of the site. Glencoe is another hot spot for watersports. Set your sights on sea kayaking on Loch Leven or get in some munro bagging in the surrounding mountains. The glen landscapes are indeed scenic.
