  • Family-run holiday park at St Cyrus, just off the A92 in Angus
  • St Cyrus Beach 15 minutes’ walk; Dunnottar Castle 20 minutes’ drive
  • Well-maintained site; playground and shop within 10 minutes’ walk
Venturing north to drive the North Coast 500 or staying around to explore more of the Angus region? Either way, family-run (and friendly) Ecclesgreig Holiday Park makes a handy base for short stops or longer getaways. It’s set in the small coastal village of St Cyrus between Aberdeen and Dundee (both about 45 minutes’ drive), with easy access to the main north-south A92. If you’re staying around for a while, you’ll have time to find the sandy beaches just 15 minutes’ walk away, and follow the wildlife walks starting right from the pitches. You can also keep the kids occupied at the Lochside Playpark (10 minutes’ walk), where there’s a bowling green and astroturf pitch for ball games as well as climbing frames. There’s a small essentials shop in St Cyrus, 10 minutes' walk away. For bigger shopping expeditions, seaside Montrose,15 minutes’ drive away, has several large supermarkets as well as numerous cafés, pubs and restaurants. The amenities on site include toilets, a shower block, a launderette and drying room, as well as a handy covered terrace in case the weather isn’t playing ball.

Powered grass and gravel campsite

Liked Our first trip away in our first campervan
4 nights away , 2 in the lakes and 2 nights at Ecclesgreig
First impression where of a very clean and well maintained campsite ,
The toilet Block / showers were spotless and water was lovely and hot ,
Also a nice laundry room with washers / dryers with sinks , also microwave / kettle & toaster to use .
A huge under cover seated area just in front of shower block with a bbq
There is also another bbq shed on site
Some nice walks around the camp and there is also a small area to let your dogs off lead ,
Right at the back of our pitch was 6 gorgeous pigmy goats who are very friendly and curious ,
The owners are on site to help with any issues , and kindly loaned us a hook up cable when ours apparently failed

Disliked Not a dislike as such , but the excellent shower block has 3 private shower rooms with toilets and also 2 separate toilet rooms , was quiet when we was there , but I'd imagine they would've busy in peak season , more showers toilets wouldn't amiss

Liked Lovely spacious pitches. Nice new, clean shower/toilet block.
Loved watching the field of goats and sheep playing with each other.
Very peaceful and an easy walk to the beach.
Pitches were a bit uneven so levelling blocks needed.
Two very stormy nights in the van but still lovely to be away.

Liked Site was spotless. Toilets and shower facilities were kept well maintained. Good lighting around the park. Enclosed dog park was good to let our dog off the lead to run about. New gravel being laid around the park. Well sign posted within the park to show you the directions to go and where your pitch is located. Staff friendly and helpful. Our neighbours were the goats and sheep who were well behaved.

Disliked Nothing to dislike at all about the site. Only thing that annoyed us was the family who were behind us let there dog off the lead many times and came into our tent. Our dog was always on the lead including a long lead outside the tent to allow her to wander.

Liked Lovely residents; facilities in good nick & clean; fantastic views (sea in distance).
Easy walking from site; beach a few minutes’ drive. St Cyrus NNR has fantastic staff putting out plenty of water for dogs.
No slot machines etc on site.

Disliked Pitch-up pitch numbers disguise true size of development; there’s a considerable number of residential statics, too. However, that shouldn’t be a negative; the atmosphere is incredibly friendly.
WiFi would be great.

Local attractions

St Cyrus National Nature Reserve (15 minutes’ walk) is a smashing spot for (hopefully) spotting skylarks and rare peregrine falcons, paddling in the North Sea and following trails through ever-shifting sand dunes. If you’re keen to see more birds, it’s a short hop to the Montrose Basin Visitor Centre (15 minutes’ drive) for the chance to spy pink-footed geese and kingfishers; there’s another sandy beach close by for summer swims. If the kids are not keen on getting in the sea, there’s an outdoor pool at Stonehaven (25 minutes), and if the weather turns bad, there’s a century’s worth of planes to be seen in hangars at Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre (10 minutes). Wait until the skies are clear before you visit legendary Dunnottar Castle (20 minutes), as its dramatic setting high on sea cliffs means it closes when it’s windy. An alternative is the 18th-century House of Dun (15 minutes), where you can learn about local life in the folk museum and tour ornate rooms and formal gardens. And Fettercairn Distillery (20 minutes) is open for tours and tasting, so you can pick up single malt as a Scottish souvenir.
