  • Luxurious lakeside huts a five minute-drive from Pewsey, in Wiltshire
  • Stonehenge half an hour’s drive; Salisbury 50 minutes
  • Dog-friendly glamping with paths starting from the site
For a relaxing glamping holiday with all (or, at least, most) of the comforts from home, consider heading to Wiltshire and Willowbank Lodges. This secluded site within the North Wessex Downs National Landscape is close to the River Avon and a five minute-drive from Pewsey, famed for its white horse, carved out of a chalky hill in the 1930s. Accommodation is in luxurious Scandinavian wooden lodges overlooking a large lake and two nature ponds – cue fairly regular encounters with waders and other wildlife. Speaking of which: ducks and dogs don’t often play well together, so while your dog is welcome to stay with you, it would be wise to keep them on a lead while on site. Paths start directly from the site, and you can walk to Savernake Forest (about an hour and a half on foot; or 10 minutes by car) or to Pewsey Wharf, where you can stop for a restorative pint at the waterside pub. Each lodge also has a smart TV in the lounge, a fully equipped kitchen (there’s a dishwasher, too, so no need to pack your rubber gloves) and a large covered veranda, which is a top spot for consuming your meals al fresco, as you take in the water views.
