General
- Scenic adults-only site overlooking the Somerset Levels
- A five-minute drive from Wells and 10 from Glastonbury
- Secluded lanes, spectacular views, and welcoming cream tea on arrival
When all you need is a break from the chaos of daily life, trundle along to Somerset and snuggle up nice and cosy at To Rest A While, an adults-only site on a working dairy farm five minutes’ drive from the city of Wells.
This is a top spot for curing stress and overwork, with quiet and secluded lanes to wander along, soothing views over the fields of Somerset Levels towards the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and a real West Country cream tea waiting for you on arrival – not to mention a complete lack of kids scurrying around making noise…
If spending days unwinding in the silence of the site isn’t enough for a proper hol, maintain a sense of calm with explores and wanders nearby: join the Monarch’s Way walking route in Wells for lengthy rambles to Glastonbury (then saunter up to Glastonbury Tor on arrival), or take to the saddle for peaceful pedals along the West Country Way, which links Cornwall and the river Avon (and passes through Wells on the way).
On chilly evenings, cuddle up by the woodfired stove to warm aching bones and muscles after long days of adventuring, cook up a feast in the kitchen and then settle in for the night, with nothing at all to disturb your rest…

Local attractions
Start hols with a jaunt into the city of Wells, five minutes’ drive away: the spectacularly stunning Wells Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Gardens, and the highly photographable Vicar’s Close are all worthy of explores, and there are shops and markets to pass more retaily days.
If credit cards are still begging to be swiped, there are more than 90 high street and designer shops at Clarks Village outlet centre 25 minutes away; otherwise stay in the car for a trip to Glastonbury where shopping can be complemented by a stop at the shoe museum, and non-shopaholics can opt for the Somerset Rural Life Museum or Glastonbury Abbey.
Those with their noses in the past have plenty to investigate round here: the stately piles of Montacute House, Lytes Carey Manor and King John’s Hunting Lodge give a taste of grandeur within 40 minutes, the Fleet Air Arm Museum and Haynes International Motoring Museum are both around 35 minutes away for the mechanically minded, and the site is 50 minutes from Bath, where Austen-themed strolls, Roman baths and architectural masterpieces entice.
For time in the great wide open, guests can flap along to RSPB Ham Wall to see some of the UK’s best starling murmurations, travel 40 minutes west to sandy beaches and the Brean Theme Park at Burnham-on-Sea, or travel 40 minutes east to Longleat Safari Park.
