  • Small and quiet adults-only site in rural Dorset; dogs welcome
  • West Bay, Abbotsbury and Bridport within 15 minutes' drive
  • Croquet pitch for guest use; village pub 10 minutes' walk away
Those of you travelling without kids, here’s a place that’s all yours to enjoy. Dorset’s Peaceful Acres Campsite, just outside the village of Litton Cheney, welcomes adult guests only to a small and quiet site where you’ll be surrounded by rural views and in no danger of being disturbed by the antics of any younger neighbours. In keeping with that serene, mature atmosphere, facilities have been kept on the simple side, with just the essentials provided (in the form of a toilet block, running water and a chemical disposal point). If you fancy a little gentle entertainment, you’re welcome to avail yourselves of the croquet pitch too. It’s all in a very handy location too, with the village pub less than 10 minutes’ walk away for a meal or a pint of something local. Also a short walk away is Litton Lakes, which has a waterside café and various activities including wild swimming and paddleboarding. A little further away are the pub and beach café in Burton Bradstock (10 minutes’ drive) and the various amenities and eateries of Bridport (15 minutes). Although this site doesn’t accept children, there’s no problem bringing your dog along (no age restrictions there; they just need to be well behaved).

Liked: Bob met us on arrival and was really friendly , we were first to arrive so had the pick of the pitches. The toilet and shower rooms were amazing and really clean at all times. Bob gave us some doughnuts on the first morning which was very kind. Overall really enjoyed our stay and will be back soon!

Disliked: Nothing

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: It's a lovely spot, campsite wasn't busy so we had lots of space. As others have said, the loos and showers are outstanding! It's also very near a swimming lake, so we had a lovely morning swim there. Generally a nice, simple, inexpensive campsite.

Disliked: There weren't any washing up facilities. That wasn't a huge deal. The site would have been super peaceful if it weren't for the perpetual loud droning sound from the farm building in next field which drove us out to Dorchester in the evening to watch Barbie (true act of desperation). Also made it a bit hard to get to sleep (the droning, not Barbie). I expect that doesn't happen all the time, but it would stop me going back just in case.

From the manager: Thanks for your review, I have been promised that the crop dryer would be turned off at night, will need to look into this again. I will be fitting a washing up station soon. As for the Barbie film I’m sooo sorry you had to go through that😂😂 Thanks again Bob😊

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked: Peaceful place with large pitches. I aways get a bit worried about heading out camping at this time of year - assume it's always going to be rammed but not the case here. Got to watch some bats in the evening and swallows in the morning. Slept like a log and the shower/toilet facilities were lovely. The owner has taken the right approach by keeping things simple and having a small number of pitches. Price accounts well for that in my opinion - might struggle facilitaties wise if it were busier. Also thanks for the donuts! Perfect start to our day 🩶 Will definitely be back - thank you so much

Disliked: Was perfect for is in a camper van with own facilities but a washing up station might be helpful for other campers 👍

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks Megan for the great review. I will look into putting a washing up station in place for people to wash up. Glad you had a nice time and look forward to you returning. Thanks again, Bob😊

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: This is a very small site located just to the east of West bay and the local town of Bridport. We received a very warm welcome from Bob who gave us an overview of the site and local area. The facilities (WC) are amazingly clean and well maintained. We were checked on both mornings and welcomed the pack of doughnuts. Bob take a bowl, you personalised the whole experience with awesome customer service. Thank you and look forward to seeing you again in a few weeks.

Liked: Big level pitch, clean showers and toilets, electric hook up close. Friendly welcome. Close to other attractions.

Disliked: Couldn't fill up on board water tank from strange hose on water tap, nowhere to wash up. It wasn't very peaceful due to constant hum of crop dryer that we were told would go off at night. Followed by neighbours riding scramble bikes in field next door. It's a working farm, but the bikes were very annoying.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for your feedback, glad you liked the pitches, showers and toilets. Sorry you were disturbed by noise from the neighbouring farm, I will be speaking to them to address this. Once again thanks for your valuable feedback.

Local attractions

With the Dorset coast just down the road it’s likely you’ll be spending rather a lot of time exploring some of its top spots – highlights include a visit to the soaring cliffs of West Bay, a stop in Abbotsbury to see the subtropical gardens and swannery and a stroll along Chesil Beach (all within 15 minutes’ drive). While you’re down there, a bite to eat at the Hive Beach Café (10 minutes) is highly recommended too. That said, it's worth noting there’s plenty to do inland as well – including a wander around Athelhampton House and Gardens, an arty amble through Sculpture By The Lakes or a dip into local history at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum (all half an hour). Hit a damp day? Sign up for a taster and tour at Palmers Brewery (15 minutes) or head into Dorchester (20 minutes) for visits to the Dorset Museum and Tutankhamun Exhibition.
