What customers say
This picturesque, quiet campsite offers beautiful views and a peaceful escape, with many reviewers praising the exceptionally friendly and helpful host, David. Its location is ideal, with easy walking access to Wimborne town and the River Stour. Kids enjoy the natural play areas and rope swing. Facilities are basic, including compost toilets and horsebox showers, which some guests found substandard for the price, while others appreciated the rustic charm. The steep track to the camping field was noted, though the host assists with transporting belongings.

Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Views from our pitch and it's location. Easily walkable along the river to Wimborne. ( a very pretty & charming town) and close to the river bank on the Stour to walk and paddle with the dog then call into the nearby Vine pub on the way back for a decent pint in picturesque beer garden
Disliked The facilities are substandard for this price point (4☆ prices for very basic amenities)
Toilets were particularly grimm long-drop compost toilets in rusty old horseboxes with no paper, water or lighting. Eco, but not pleasant to use.
Showers were similar and only worked sporadically, cattle troughs for washing up were a cute touch but wholly impractical with no drainboard area or hot water.

From the manager: Stuart thank you for your review and I shall try to take any action I can to make the experience better the next people.
I am encouraged that you say you would come again. I’m sure the beautiful field and views that you had all to yourself weren’t too bad. I’m sorry the loos and showers disappointed you but a positive is they are clean and do not smell.
You gave me a very low score for my accommodation which you can’t of intended as you were in your own accommodation.
I really do hope you will come again, it was great to meet you and I’m very pleased you enjoyed what Wimborne has to offer.
Obviously this time I made an exception for you staying with your VW but next time you would have to bring a tent!
All the best,
David

Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Lovely peaceful location and the kids were able to range around freely because there are no cars on site. The host was lovely and took all belongings to the site for us.
The kids enjoyed the rope swing and climbing trees.
Easy walk to a nice farm shop for ice cream and also to the river. We had fun swimming and paddle boarding.
Showers were hot.
Disliked I would have liked a light in the toilets.

Basic camp site close to Wimborne.
Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Solitude. 20 minute walk into Wimborne.
Disliked Difficulty getting from car to camp site and back - muddy track (although grateful for the lift up to camping area with my stuff). The compost loos were really hard to find - had to ask other campers as they aren't obvious. Water supply was from a hose by the car park, not a tap, so hard to control and had to lug water up hill - path not fit for a trolley. Place generally feels a bit run down and ramshackle. Seemed a bit pricey given the lack of facilities.

Beautiful affordable camping
Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Really beautiful spot on the edge of Wimborne. David was really accommodating with us arriving a little early to get to our friends wedding that we were attending near by, and was happy to drive our stuff up to the camping field (the last bit from the parking is pretty steep!) and seemed like an all round nice guy.
Disliked No complaints!

From the manager: It was really nice meeting you all, you’ll have to come again if you have time between all the weddings!

Love this place. The view is breathtaking, the owner/host a delight
Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Location was amazing. Such a wonderful view from the bottom shepherds hut paddock. David, the host, was very kind enough to let us pitch our quick getaway tent in this field due to no other occupants and we were only staying onsite for a total of 12 hours.
Despite arriving about an hour later than planned, David was enthusiastic about our stay, chatted about why we were not cold having driven with the roof down on the car, talked to us a little bit about the amenities of the site and gave us the best tour he could give, considering it was pretty dark at that point.
Total credit to the campsite.
Camp fire was no issue, absolutely massive fire bowl already provided.
We got woken up by cockerel’s and hens. This isn’t a complaint. They woke us up by surrounding the tent like an angry gang of clueless birds. We accidentally left a box of 5 chicken selects which one particularly hefty guy with dark brown, almost black bits, scoffed down in record time. I’m sorry David! This wasn’t an intentional attempt at the plucky rooster to engage in mild cannibalism I swear!
David invited us to return any time we like. We’re in the area very frequently so as time and weather allows, this may well become a regular place to bed down in peace and quiet for the night.
It has no WiFi, but, who cares. This is a site to switch off from it.
Disliked That’s easy! The driveway from the main road (itself a pain in the… yep) is basically unstable surfaces meets steep bits meets random deep idents in the surface. It’s pretty winding too. Rear wheel drivers beware, you’ll want less torque more traction for this bad boy. Slow and steady will win that race. I can imagine it changes during rainfalls too. Just something to bear in mind.
