  • Adults-only site on the Jurassic Coast, 300 metres from a small beach
  • Overlooking Chesil Beach and a 10-minute drive from Weymouth
  • Farm with alpacas, Shetland ponies, horses, sheep, chickens and ducks
The fact that Martleaves Farm Campsite has views of Chesil Beach and the Isle of Portland should already give you a clue that this adults-only site is in an excellent location in Dorset. Need more proof? Martleaves Farm sits on the Jurassic Coast, a 10-minute drive from both the seaside town of Weymouth and the Isle of Portland, with direct access to a small beach (300 metres away) and the South West Coast Path. As if all that wasn’t enough, the site also overlooks the Fleet Lagoon, a saltwater estuary where guests can go swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding. And birdwatching, of course: the lagoon is home to swans and little terns, plus seasonal flocks of geese. Animals lovers might also enjoy meeting the farm’s residents, which include alpacas, Shetland ponies, horses, sheep, chickens and ducks. Dogs are welcome on leads, but free to run off lead along the footpaths down to the sea. If you’re keen on walking, the Rodwell Trail along a nearby disused railway track will whisk you to Weymouth in less than an hour (about 15 minutes if you’re going by bicycle). Buses to Weymouth run frequently (the bus stop is five minutes’ walk from the farm) and take around 25 minutes; those travelling to the Isle of Portland and its wild beaches (rock climbing, anyone?) take around 20 minutes. Pubs and takeaways are along the same road.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: We absolutely loved our stay at Martleaves! Excellent facilities with really clean showers (that have great water pressure and are hot!) and lovely toilets. Such a lovely spot overlooking the beach and we had some lovely neighbouring ponies next to us 🐴 would absolutely recommend and will definitely come again! Thankyou so much x

Primitive grass tent campsite (solo)

Liked: Good facilities, toilets clean and warm. Washing up facilities good, hot water readily available. Friendly staff with easy check in and out. Level pitches.

Disliked: Quite a small pitch provided that was quite wet due to being at a low part of the field. This was not a huge issue, it meant to be careful not to get the mud everywhere.

Liked: Lovely campsite, with clean facilities, and hot water at the dishwashing sinks. Very close to the water's edge, perfect for walking along the coastal path. Bonus, there were alpacas in the field near by.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful site with great facilities. Really nice management team and other campers lovely too. The walk down to the beach/estuary is gorgeous.

Disliked: Booked a grass pitch with EHU but was given a hard standing pitch instead which was a shame but no big deal.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The view from our camping spot was beautiful, with a short walk down to the beach. The bathrooms were clean and modern, with lovely hot showers. It was a lovely quiet site, close to Weymouth and easy to get onto the coast road to visit other local attractions.

Local attractions

With a large marina and a sandy beach, Weymouth is a magnet for watersports enthusiasts – whether they’re into sailing, swimming or paddleboarding. The SEA LIFE Centre Weymouth has 11 different themed areas housing underwater creatures ranging from seahorses to sharks, plus penguins, otters and poison dart frogs. An iconic landmark along the Jurassic Coast, Durdle Door (40 minutes) is a limestone arch overlooking a shingle beach. From here, the South West Coast Path leads to Lulworth Cove, where you can have a go at coasteering, an activity that combines swimming, climbing and jumping – all the while discovering the geological history of this stretch of coast. Also on the Jurassic Coast is Lyme Regis (one hour), known for being the birthplace of 19th-century palaeontologist Mary Anning, whose statue overlooks the fossil-rich beach. Take a walk along the Cobb, the town’s curved harbour wall, along which are several outfits offering boat and fishing trips.
