  • Family-friendly farm site on the Isle of Purbeck
  • On the edge of Langton Matravers; five minutes' drive from Swanage
  • Café; adventure farm (additional fee) with a petting zoo and soft play
A family-friendly site with grassy field pitches on a working farm, Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake sits on the outskirts of the peaceful Dorset village of Langton Matravers, on the Isle of Purbeck. This is an excellent base to unwind or explore the Purbecks, whether it's walking, cycling, climbing, kayaking, coasteering or visiting tourist attractions. When you roll up here, you're free to pick any spot you like. This site is all about unwinding and soaking in the countryside views, so off-ground firepits and barbecues are welcome. On-site amenities include toilets, token-operated showers and a washing-up point. You’ll never be far from the sea on this scenic stretch of land: the site is a five-minute drive from Swanage beach and 15 minutes from Studland beach. Walks through fields to the South West Coast Path are directly accessible from the site; once there, you're on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and can get to spectacular views like the Dancing Ledge (check out the small sea pool…) and the caves at Winspit Quarry. The site has a small shop and an on-site café serving local produce, including breakfast and lunch. In the evenings, it sometimes opens up an offset smoker barbecue or pizza oven. Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake also has an adventure farm (an additional fee applies) with a petting zoo, a large indoor soft play area, a playground and pedal go-karts. With a bus stop and a range of footpaths just outside the site, it's easy to explore the area on foot, by bus or by car. There are car-free trails to the historic village of Corfe Castle (one hour and 15 minutes on foot or a 10-minute drive). And just in case this all-round top location wasn’t already great enough, it's also less than 500 metres from the local pub, which has a cosy beer garden. Another popular pub is a five-minute drive away – although, after a few ciders, the bus might come in handy.

Primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Very clean and tidy toilet and shower facilities.
Lovely little cafe for a quick bite of cake.

Disliked The whole site is on a slope, however, there are some good spots around the edges of the perimeter.
There’s only one toilets/shower block within the site, so if you park up further away whilst trying to avoid the slope, it’s a bit of a trek to these facilities down the hill and then up the hill back to your tent.

Kevin D.

Primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Proximity to the beach

Disliked Sadly, they had run out of shower tokens when we arrived. Couldn’t find anyone with a key to open the token boxes in the showers. Asked if it would be possible to drop some tokens by the tent for our return, which was agreed - only to get back and no tokens had been dropped off. Family unable to shower - not great.

Really let the place down.

Considering this, the distance downhill for a shower / toilet - doubt we’d stay here again.

From the manager: HI Kevin,
I am so sorry that the shower tokens were not dropped off - huge apologies. We do hope you would consider staying here again - we do take onboard customer feedback and will see what we can do to prevent this from happening in the future.

Primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Nice little site. A bit hilly so you have to pick your spot. Showers and Loos were clean. Bus stop just outside the entrance, handy for Swanage or Corfe Castle and beyond. Has a Cafe which is useful. Pub couple of minutes up the road.

Primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked It was a very quiet and clean campsite. The views were stunning. Loved being so close to the pigs and having the cafe on site was a brilliant. The petting farm and soft play area was great clean and tidy and not run down or worn out.

Disliked The showers were bit to hot for my son only 5.

Local attractions

With a long sandy beach and shallow waters, Swanage is a popular destination for a family day at the seaside. And when you’re all beached out, you can head to Prince Albert Gardens for views of the Victorian pier and Swanage Bay, or take a ride on the Swanage Railway's heritage trains all the way to Corfe Castle and beyond. Overlooked by the ruins of 11th-century Corfe Castle, Dorset Adventure Park (10 minutes’ drive) is the place to get wet (at the inflatable water park) and/or muddy (at the assault course with cargo nets, monkey bars and mud slides). If you’re into militaria, you'll likely appreciate the displays at The Tank Museum (25 minutes), which include armoured vehicles from both World Wars, plus other conflicts like the wars in the Gulf and Afghanistan. Iconic Jurassic Coast destinations Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are half an hour's drive away.
