Our site before the festival

  • Traditional working farm with cider production and microbrewery
  • Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and views of the Jurassic Coast
  • Italian restaurant; tickets are extra for summer events and festivals
Fancy the sound of a Dorset farm with its own cider production and cosy restaurant – plus summer events (which you need to buy separate tickets for)? With views of the fably viewsome Jurassic Coast and Bride Valley, adults-only Bredy Farm is also close to beaches, the South West Coast Path, Bridport and Dorchester. You might fancy a pint or two of that, cheers. All these happenings are on a relaxed and friendly working farm with its own microbrewery and cider shed open to the public. It's set up for simple camping, for excellent cider and for parties, at its occasional weekend-long music events (extra charge). Guests pitch up in The Orchard or The Mead on either side of the river Bride. Facilities include running water, a basic cold-water area to wash pots and pans, three portable toilets, four composting toilets, three rustic shower units on The Mead (free to use) as well as two flushing toilets and two modern, high-quality coin-operated showers (located on the main farm). Certainly not basic are the offerings at the farm's Italian restaurant/café, which serves up plates of tasty homemade food, including proper Neapolitan-style pizzas (it's rightly popular so it's best to book ahead, especially if you're travelling in a group). In the summer months, this is a site that's buzzing with energy, with live music, DJs and a bar that's open until 2am. This means that the site is noisier and busier on weekends. Out of season and midweek, things are generally more chilled around here.

Orchard primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (adults only)

Liked: have stayed here previously and love the setting, ambience, big skies on clear nights and proximity to the coastal path and Hardy's Monument - its such a beautiful place and great for walking, cycling etc

Disliked: We stayed early season on a Monday night - the only slight disappointment was that the bar was closed / there wasn't an opportunity to purchase their cider or IPA (for carry out). I totally appreciate it probably wasn't worth their opening the bar for the number of guests staying

Orchard primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (adults only)

Liked: The area, pitches, river and staff.

Disliked: Toilet fascilities on the pitch. The toilets at the restaurant were great though. It was a bit noisy, even at 4am with patrons returning from the pub to their campsite.

Orchard primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (adults only)

Liked: The campsite was very pretty and had good ammeties.

Disliked: If you are looking for peace and quiet than this place is definitely not on the cards . We booked for adults only and chose the site for peacefulness. We knew it had certain times when they have festivals on but this weekend was an absolute nightmare with noise especially with the campers coming back from the pub at 230 in the morning. We stayed Thursday till Monday and Thursday was lovely the other nights horrendous. If your looking for peace and quiet afford like the plaque.

Orchard primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (adults only)

Liked: Campsite was ok to look at!

Disliked: They said it was dog friendly , but to play extremely loud music for 8hrs at night was very alarming for dogs and any animals including cows and sheep in the vicinity. I was very concerned, upset and surprised as it was a farm! Not dog or animal friendly at all. I left after the first night of three I had booked…

Orchard primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (adults only)

Liked: The landscape is beautiful. This could be a really great campsite, if it weren't for pretty much everything else. To be clear, we didn't visit the restaurant, so my review doesn't include that.

Disliked: The facilities are very basic, which would be ok if the price were substantially lower, but this is an expensive site. You have to walk through a swamp to reach the showers in sheds. The portaloos are festival standard, no water, claustrophobic and unclean. There is nowhere to have a sink wash to avoid the shower swamp and there is no hot water to wash dishes.

The site is described as 'lively' but this hugely underplays the fact that this is a nightclub! I have been at lively sites and this is far beyond that. There is a DJ playing until 2pm, as this happens in an open sided barn, the noise is extremely loud and you cannot escape it anywhere on the site. There is a sign which suggests that the campsite is quiet after midnight. This is not adhered to at all (and the fact you can still hear the DJ sets a precedent that they don't care if you sleep), so other selfish campers played music until 5am. Do not expect to get any sleep, our weekend away was really spoilt.

Liked: Orchard area was very pretty
Pizza from Italian restaurant was great

Disliked: Loud music in the venue on the farm went on until after 2 am in the morning. I don't know why this wasn't clear when we booked because we were really looking for a quiet weekend away.
Dirty port-a-loos.
Loud groups up drinking etc.

Local attractions

If you're here for an events weekend, stick around for a bit afterwards to investigate the area: take it as read that your boss will applaud your initiative. Start off by going seawards: the nearest beach and the local stretch of Jurassic Coast are about a mile away in front of Bredy Farm's local village of Burton Bradstock, leading to the famed Chesil Beach. (The award-winning Hive café dishes up seafood in Burton Bradstock too.) If it's Jurassic Coast fossils you're after, the nearby Dinosaurland Fossil Museum in Lyme Regis has piles of specimens in its collection of local Jurassic marine fossils, so meander along here to see what you can sea. More fossily remains are in the Jurassic Coast gallery at nearby Bridport Museum. Piles of other things are around Bredy Farm to see and do, such as the village of Abbotsbury and its swannery, full-size construction machinery driving at Diggerland Devon, seaside towns like Charmouth and Weymouth, and exploring old buildings like Hardy's Cottage. If you're around to shop, local town Bridport has a vintage market on the last Sunday of every month. You might also like to try more of the fizzy stuff if you're around Bredy Farm for a cider weekend, so totter off to a couple of the boozy attractions in the area, such as the tastings and tours of Bridport's Palmer Brewery, founded in 1794, and sampling the sparkling and still wines of Furleigh Estate Wines, producing Dorset wine from its base at Salway Ash.
