It might be time to set a countdown until your next beach break, as this pop-up site just a 10-minute walk from Southbourne beach will surely spur you into action. Set in a spacious school field in Southbourne, Hengistbury Head Bournemouth Family Campsite is a pop-up site exclusively for families and couples to get some R&R near the beach. Spacious and flat, the field has no frills. The back-to-basics facilities extend to proper showers and toilets, changing rooms and drinking water; all of the above are open at set periods in the morning and again in the early evening, although there are additional 24-hour portable toilets in the field. In the morning, breakfast baps, coffees and cold drinks can be purchased on site. Barbecues are also welcome, as long as they’re kept off the ground, for which blocks are provided. The owner, Sam, would also like to lead local walking tours for those interested (and who ask in advance). There is also free parking in the corner of the field immediately next to the pitches. On the days when you’re not planning to frolic on the sand, Hengistbury Head is a short walk away with trails to the Mudeford Sandbank and cafés. There are also local bus routes to Bournemouth, Poole, the New Forest and Swanage. In Tuckton, 15 minutes’ walk away, there is a boat hire shop and a garden with tea rooms. Family pubs and a golf course are also a short walk away.
