  • Quiet family farm and wildlife haven on the edge of Wareham Forest
  • Families, couples and kids welcome on 'pick your own pitch' fields
  • Within 10 minutes' drive of Wareham and 20 from the Jurassic Coast
This Dorset site is aptly named: Wooder’s Camping is right on the edge of Wareham Forest for woodland holidays with plenty of routes to roam. Families, ramblers, cyclists and dogs are all welcome here, on a friendly site close to the Jurassic Coast and just to the north of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wareham town centre is within 10 minutes’ drive for shopping, cream teas and strolls or rowing trips along the River Frome; it’s the same distance to the famed Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre to pootle around with the primates. Not that there’s any need to venture far for glimpses of animals: the site is in a wildlife haven home to bats, owls, songbirds and Sika deer, and is on a working farm with its own cows and two bulls as well as geese and cockerels in the paddock. Kids are welcome to explore if they're careful, and all guests can come along to meet the cows on request. Once you’ve had a gander, build a campfire in the firepit available for a small fee (first-come, first-served basis) and settle down to see the stars in this area of low light pollution (please note that campfires may be banned in very dry conditions, for safety reasons). Sacks of wood collected from the farmland are available to buy; for foodie supplies local village Bere Regis (five minutes’ drive away) has a convenience store, two pubs and a petrol station. Amenities on site include a toilet, a hot shower and a washing-up area. When you arrive, follow the signs to the pitching field, pitch up and get unpacked: the owners will be along that evening to say hi.

Local attractions

Coastal highlights like Swanage, Weymouth and Lulworth Cove are all within easy reach of this site with the latter (20 minutes’ drive) being a lush seaside spot that draws in crowds wanting to photograph its scenic setting. Another famed place beside the water is Durdle Door, 25 minutes away, a rocky natural arch that also lures in lots of visitors. For attractions closer by, amble around the armoured fighting vehicles at The Tank Museum or take the kids to Farmer Palmer's Farm Park for indoor and outdoor play areas, farm animals and woodland trails (both a 10-minute drive). If you’ve got teens studying English Literature at school, it's worth traipsing towards Hardy’s Cottage, 15 minutes away by car, to bring their lessons to life by exploring the birthplace of the well-known author.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The place is epic, most people who book end up staying extra (like my self) everyone is friendly, the owners are epic and so accommodating! The toilets are really nice (most sites in this budget use compost loos - nothing wrong with that but some people don’t do compost loos)
Warm showers
Washing up facilities
Two main areas for toilets

They do have plans to add some extra features in next year.

In the summer they have events. The location is great as it’s close to tank museum / monkey world / lulworth / durdle door.

They don’t provide electric hook up - this is fine as my caravan is 12v anyways / they do have a place you can charge the battery.

I would stay again / in fact since booking I have stayed again. Easily my favourite campsite due to the owners and staff and the people who go there. I have made friends for life!

Side note / my caravan blew a tyre 5 miles away, my spare tyre was flat and they come out to pump it up for me!

I’ve put 5* for Wifi - however, I am unsure if this place has Wifi. The 4G was very good.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: This is the second visit to wooders, the staff are extremely helpful they speak to every single camper every day. We love the relaxed camping experience at wooders, there is no time limits on arrival and departure. The animals on site excite our children especially the loud goats! Highly recommend Wooders.
If you happened to choose a soggy weekend the drive into the site is a bit of fun, tractor on stand by if you happen to get stuck. There are now hot showers here, which is a delight. Portaloos/showers are available, always kept clean, sinks for washing up and drinking tap.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Laid back easy going place, large field with basic but perfectly adequate facilities. Level ground.
There's a cafe and bar on site, which we didn't actually check out but I'm sure the reviews are positive. Will return as we live quite local so a nice night away in the camper.

Liked: Pitch where you like, lovely surroundings and fab walks directly from the site. Very quiet when we stayed.

Disliked: Sadly the showers were not to our taste, the portaloo type set up meant last persons waste water was present in the base which wouldn't drain and nowhere to keep clothes dry. No check in process so didn't meet the owner/warden during our stay which would have been nice to ask questions etc

Liked: Beautifully clean, sparkly toilet block. Well supplied with loo roll. Nice to see recycling was encouraged. Cute showers, clean with luxuriously hot water.

Site was clear of litter and very well maintained. I was welcomed in a friendly manner and felt completely safe on site. I would definitely return, a much higher standard than I had expected.

Disliked: No issues
