  • Peaceful family-friendly pitches among cider apple orchards
  • Exeter, Exmoor and Dartmoor all within a half-hour drive
  • Local pub and community shop 20 minutes' walk away
Settle down for a sweet stay among apple trees at Orchard Lodge Campsite, a delightful Devon site where the pitches are set up right there in a cider orchard. Being entirely surrounded by trees means plenty of peace and privacy for guests, as well as some rather enticing aromas from the fruit… This rural location is about 20 minutes’ walk from the village of Cheriton Fitzpaine, which has a community shop and a pub that serves excellent food. If you’d rather do your own thing, head to the local farm shop, 10 minutes’ drive away, where you can also pick your own strawberries in season (and they serve food too if you fancy stopping off for a bit). Crediton, 15 minutes away, is another good place to seek out food (and of course you’ll want to stop off at Sandford Orchards to pick up some cider to sip among the trees). Facilities here have been kept to a minimum to avoid interfering with the crops, but guests will have access to toilets and showers.

Liked: Lovely quiet campsite. Pitched amongst the apple trees. Made use of the table tennis table.

Disliked: A couple of hooks by the washing up sink for your t-towels would be useful.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Stayed for one night and will definitely be back for more, absolutely stunning location, very quiet and was surprised to hear this is often the case. Facilities are basic, toilets, showers and washing area, but this was all we needed and all areas were very clean and we'll maintained. There was also a large sheltered communal area which has some seating and a table tennis setup, which I can imagine is a blessing when it's raining and you've got bored children! Large and small pitches available and we were able to choose our own space when we arrived. For some reason, at the time of writing, pitchup lists the site as not allowing fires, however they do allow them as long as they are raised off the ground, however there are no firepits or wood available that we saw, so you'd have to bring your own.

Disliked: Mobile phone signal is poor if that's something that matters to you, can't say it was a big concern personally. And obviously not something that the site owners have any control over.

Liked: We loved our stay at Orchard Lodge! The hosts were fab and the simple set up of the site was perfect for us as a family. Although we were the only campers on the site, walking around it was clear to see that the orchard setting would have provided great privacy if it were busier. The plots were a good size with a freedom of choice on where to pitch up. The communal barn was a great addition with the table tennis set up and seating area, a nice way to escape the weather and still entertain the kids. We will definitely be returning and would recommend to any families looking for a quiet site where the kids can play and not have to worry!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: So beautiful and secluded. Simple but clean facilities (warm powerful showers). Rubbish taken, toilets cleaned. One couple was leaving as I turned up and had the place to myself! One tent there the next day and that was it. So quiet and peaceful. Can't wait to stay again. Hesitant to review as don't want it to become busy!

Disliked: As a city dweller, the single track lanes to the site took some getting used to!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful orchard with stunning views and lots of space. Able to pick own pitch then just let hosts know where we were. Quiet area, good for walks and exploring the countryside. A couple of excellent pubs within 15min drive. Hot and cold shower, sink area and separate tap for drinking water. Great hosts who were friendly and more than happy to help witha anything.

Disliked: Toilet. Portaloo. A compost toilet would be better.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review. We are so glad you had a lovely week with us. The toilets are defiantly something we are going to look into for next year! Hope to see you again! Thank you Annabel & John
