Country View Lodge: Private pond

General

  • Well-appointed family accommodation on a peaceful Cornish farm
  • Roadford Lake 15 minutes' drive; Bude half an hour
  • Spacious two-bedroom lodge a short walk from a private pond

From making your way over tors and forests to paddling and fishing off the shore of Cornish seaside havens, Country View Lodge at East Panson will kickstart your adventures in Cornwall and Devon. That’s because this rural site is in the Cornish countryside, within easy reach of the county's north and south coasts, as well as the border with Devon.

You’ll be cosy here… in the grounds of a working farm, the lodge accommodation has two bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen, a bright and airy lounge, a dining area and a half-length bath with a shower in the bathroom. Alfresco meals are bound to be on the menu, as there’s also outdoor decking with seating where you can relax in the open air, a barbecue and a small garden area.

Elsewhere on the farm, there’s a peaceful nature pond where you can sit, feed and watch the fish, but for those of you who are itching to explore the local area, you could make a beeline for the two well-liked local pubs, village shop and post office in the tiny village you’re staying in, called Saint Giles on the Heath – these handy spots are only five minutes' drive away.

As for those cool places that are further afield, Country View Lodge is approximately a quarter of an hour's drive from Roadford Lake and half an hour from the seaside town of Bude, with historic fishing villages, crazy coastal castles and rainforest biomes all options for other days out.

The photos do not do the lodge justice. It was spotlessly clean with everything you needed. The home made scones were very well received!
The views from the lodge were amazing and we enjoyed sitting on the decking looking out. The children enjoyed feeding the fish at the pond. The hosts were very welcoming too. Would love to come back.

A lovely holiday and a great place to stay - immaculate and friendly07/27/2022

A modern lodge with all you could need. The accommodation is immaculate! (This was important to us so well done and thank you to the hosts). Krystina and Brian were helpful and friendly, so again, thank You! The views were wonderful and it was peaceful and quiet - apart from the sheep, lol 😂. It was especially good that the car was well under cover and shaded during a hot and sunny spell - phew!
We liked the sheer beauty of the various northern tidal beaches and the diversity of Bude, when explored.

    Disliked:

    Just a quick mention....
Lots of driving to get to different beaches (but of course we knew that).
It might be an idea to put the name of the lodge outside as it was tricky to be sure of
    (NB It’s at East Panson)

Please note: we’ve clicked ‘no’ on the compulsory question below regarding whether we would stay at the Lodge again or not, but that’s because we like visiting different places.

The Lodge was most comfortable and extremely well furnished. The location afforded us access to many interesting parts of Cornwall with very little effort. The owners were charming and made us welcome. We would recommend to others , as this was also recommended to us by friends who stayed there recently.

Very kind hospitable hosts, immaculate accommodation with everything provided. Two nice patios to watch the sunrise/sunset, weather permitting. Very peaceful with no sound from anywhere. Lived up to expectations. Great pub up the road (closed Mon/Tues)(some interesting old classic cars rusting away in a barn next to it!) and P.O and shop down the road in the village. Range of attractions within reasonable driving distance, Crackington Haven, Boscastle, Tintagel, Hartland Quay and Point, Bude, Lydford Gorge etc.

Local attractions

So, you want watersports? Get off to a flying start at Roadford Lake (15 minutes' drive), where there are kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and sailing boats for hire, or activities like archery and climbing onshore.

Seeking out trails? Forests, tors, Bronze Age circles and valleys can be tracked down around Dartmoor National Park (20 minutes), including the long-distance Two Moors Way, Dartmoor Way or Templer Way.

The coast has all sorts of activities on offer, from surfing on Bude’s beach (half an hour) and rowing on the canal to a wreck fishing trip from Boscastle harbour (40 minutes), or crabbing from the Victorian bridge in the fishing village of Looe (an hour).

The crazy landscape of Tintagel Castle (50 minutes) will turn your tour of the coast into something a little more historical, with Arthurian legends swirling around Merlin’s Cave. There’s also the Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre (20 minutes) for anyone who’d like to see the rides that were used in the first incarnations of the fairground.

With rainforest and Mediterranean biomes, a zipwire and a giant swing, it’s easy to see why Eden Project (50 minutes) is such a big Cornwall attraction, so get on down there too.
