  • Relaxing park on the Devon/Cornwall border
  • Heated indoor pool, spa and therapy cabin
  • A variety of pop-up kitchens and bars throughout high season
It’s a stonkingly safe bet that any site listed as having an ‘infrared therapy cabin’ is going to be one where you can relax and get away from it all. Woodovis Park, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Devon/Cornwall border, has this in spades: relaxed but with Devon delights just on the doorstep, no road noise, splendid beaches within easy reach, plenty of active options nearby, a heated indoor pool and spa on site, and, the topping on the Devonshire cake – fresh bread, croissants and pain au chocolat all baked daily for the licensed on-site shop. Activities on site include archery, waterwalking, visits from international storyteller Clive PiG once a week during school holidays, and twice-weekly circus skills workshops in high season. A wood-chipped play area and games room are there for the small people, as well as a nature trail, outdoor table tennis and a pétanque court to ping about on. Dogs will also have a barkingly good time here, as Woodovis is dog-friendly and has a dedicated dog walking area as well as Lower Meadow, the site's ‘specially for pups’ field where pooches can run off the lead. (There’s a dog-wash area on site too, although perhaps tails won’t be wagging too much at that.) Facilities at this safe, family-friendly and environmentally-friendly park include a free wifi zone in the games room and chargeable wifi available throughout, twinklingly clean loos and free hot showers, a parent and baby washroom, a launderette and – blessedly – a bath for soaks in blissful solitude. An additional individual toilet is in the Tamar View Field. A traditional pub with good food is around half a mile’s walk away, but if you don't want to stray that far, a variety of pop-up kitchens and bars are available on site throughout high season. But back to that therapy cabin. The infrared rays here are used as part of a targeted deep heat treatment to warm the back’s blood vessels – soothe all your non-holiday stresses here before splashing about in the heated pool with the family or taking in a bit more relaxation in the spa room. Well, you can never have too much relaxing…

What customers say

This spotless, peaceful site is highly recommended! Staff are friendly & helpful, with spacious pitches & great facilities (pool, hot tub, sauna). Eco-friendly touches & dog/bike wash stations are a bonus. Minor notes: pod size for 3, early pool closing, limited veggie food.

Top Field powered gravel campsite

Liked Great facilities.
Pool was busy at peak time but lovely temperature for our 1 year old who likes the water.
Kids play park and dog field were added bonus as well.
The Snack Shack on a Saturday evening sold delicious food.
WiFi was really strong.
Toilet facilities were simple but showers were hot and fine.
We booked last minute as a quick over night getaway and it was well worth it.

Disliked I didn’t see any outdoor covered benches. Would have been nice to have the option to eat our meal outside and as we were up so early with the baby, somewhere to sit and have breakfast while the other parent caught up on sleep!

Super camping pod

Liked We had a wonderful stay and would love to come back!

● Clean & tidy site
● Well thought out layout
● Fabulous sustainability - the recycling bins was great to see
● Immaculate super pod with everything you need
● Appreciated the extra loo near the pods
● Enjoyed the pool, sauna & hot tub
● Friendly staff
● Peaceful
● Great location

Disliked Our stay was pretty much perfect but these are the only improvements we thought of.

● The convertible sofa bed was uncomfortable and gave us sore backs so would suggest to future glampers to pack an thicker layer like an extra duvet or mattress topper to put over the sofa panels.

● We love to see a falafel/faux meat plantbased or vegan burger option at the Shack.

Tamar-View powered gravel campsite

Liked The pool and shop

Disliked The soulless atmosphere, the dinghy pitch that smelt and was right down the end. The unkempt path to the dog field, resulting in both of us getting nettle stings. No security gate. No pubs nearby, although the one that was a bit of a walk we were told by staff it wasn’t a nice pub (the coppers?) Did not stay second paid night as too depressing.

Local attractions

First on your must-do list should be a trip to nearby Tavistock, market town and home of the cream tea; browse around the regular farmers’ markets to pick up the best Devonshire produce. To walk all that food off, you’re only a short drive from Dartmoor with its walking, cycling and horse riding trails, or other active options including tree-surfing and canoeing are nearby. Those for whom a holiday wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the beach will be in sandy heaven, with some of the best beaches in the country easily reachable by car: bounce around the rock pools at Bovisand, get sand between your toes at Seaton, or explore the several small beaches at Talland Bay. For historical highlights, the National Trust’s Castle Drogo has gardens and a gorgeous view over the Teign Gorge. Or have a go at family walks and bike rides at Plymbridge, a look at Sir Francis Drake’s former home Buckland Abbey, or a visit to Dartmoor’s Lydford Gorge, the deepest in the south west and with a waterfall 30 metres high.
