The three yurts and a campfire area, overlooking Dartmoor National Park

General

  • Peaceful family-run farm over 40 acres in west Devon
  • Overlooking Dartmoor a short walk from watersports at Roadford Lake
  • Fresh farm produce for sale, communal campfire, toilets and showers

Communal campfires, farm produce for sale, a menagerie to meet and wide open space all around… you and your small sorts will likely love Devon's Oak Tree Lane.

Set on a smallholding over 40 acres of pasture and woodland between Launceston and Okehampton on the Devon/Cornwall border, Oak Tree is a family-run farm with pigs, sheep, goats and ex-battery farm chickens now merrily scratching around outdoors. Young wannabe farmers are welcome to wander much of the farm and help feed the animals during their stay – attention might also be gratefully received by farm cat Snowy...

The farm's location is fab, overlooking Dartmoor National Park and within three-quarters of a mile of the biggest watersports lake in the south-west at Roadford Lake; as it's right in the middle of Devon, you can be at either north or south coasts in under an hour.

Oak Tree Lane sells its own produce including fresh free-range eggs and a range of pork joints, meat cuts, sausages and bacon from the rare breed free-range pigs. It has a communal campfire for guitar sessions, singalongs or just contemplating the flames with a cuppa or a tipple.

Amenities include toilet and shower blocks with individual cubicles. As it's a working farm, Oak Tree Lane can't allow dogs (guide dogs excepted).

Please note that the ground on site is undulating and naturally sloped in areas.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 12/31/2021.

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Coronavirus update: The accommodation at Oak Tree Lane is well set up for social distancing, as each unit is independent and self-contained, with private cooking and bathroom facilities.

The scenery, including the lovely sheep.
The cabin is separate from any other cabin, so you have privacy and it is quiet.
It has lovely decorations and I was gratefully surprised by the shower: it is bigger and nicer than the ones you would find at some hotels!

Our hosts were welcoming when we arrived and often seemed to be available to answer questions.
They were very thorough about covid restrictions and provided us with our own washing facilities.

    Disliked:

There was some loud road noise at night which required some good earplugs. However, the location of the campsite was otherwise surrounded by natures noises (also loud at night but very welcome!)

Stayed for 2 nights, just the four of us. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by Phil and everything was explained, the great safety features were brilliant. All have individual toilets and showers with hand sanitiser readily available. Minds put straight to rest with everything that's going on. Phil took all our bags to our yurt which from the moment we stepped inside took our breath away! My little boy who is 5 absolutely loved it!! The beds are super comfy and the wood burner is much welcome, adds a real sense of home and cosiness to the place.
We had our own kitchen facilities which were perfect for what we needed and even a bbq was available.
A big hit was the communal fire area, logs were already stacked and hunting for kindling was a great activity. Bring your Marshmallows!!
Couldn't ask for a better time as a family, we will definitely be back!

Me and my 2 girls went for a 4 night camp at Oak Tree Lane. To say amazing is an understatement!!! Firstly, Phil and Sera are fantastic hosts, so welcoming and attentive. They work so hard ensuring everything is clean and ready every day. Every opportunity is spent with conversation, making sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our stay. wonderful, beautiful people who clearly love everything they do!
The camp spot was idyllic, beautiful country views, sheep in front of us. It had been raining a lot when we arrived, but Phil was on hand to help take up and retrieve our camping stuff (as I had an old Peugeot) if needed. The field Is kept vehicle free to give the children a safe area to play, which is just what they needed. There was a drinking water tap in the middle of the field which was so handy. A wonderful communal campfire too!! Bonus! The showers were luxury, as in good pressure, clean at all times and perfect space wise.
With the present climate Covid regulations are strictly adhered too and lots have been put in place to ensure the guidelines can be carried out.
Over all, 5 stars, you made our holiday special, thank you 🥰 We will be back next year!!

The location is very remote (be prepared to drive 20mins for essentials). Also you can’t leave your car near your tent, which I do understand but this could be inconvenient if you have a very small tent and rely on storing things in your car.

Local attractions

Oak Tree Lane's setting just off the A30 on the Devon/Cornwall border means it's under an hour from the varied terrain of the north and south Devon coasts as well as within easy reach of many top attractions of both counties.

Within walking distance at three quarters of a mile is Roadford Lake, the biggest lake for watersports in the south west at over 730 acres. Sailing, windsurfing and kayaking are among the many options on the water here; on land, tackle high ropes, climbing and archery – or take things very easy and settle back to have a cream tea.

You can be in Cornwall within 20 minutes, coming in via ancient Launceston a mile from the River Tamar, and driving across the county to Wadebridge and Bodmin Moor, or on to the coast at Tintagel, Boscastle or Port Isaac. The Eden Project is a pleasant drive across Bodmin Moor to St Austell; driving further along Cornwall's south coast will take you to Falmouth, and then onto the Lizard Peninsula on England's south-west tip.

Several National Trust sites are within a short drive: have a look at the waterfall of Lydford Gorge, the working watermill Cotehele Mill and the house and estate of 13th-century Buckland Abbey near Yelverton.

Must see

  • Castle Drogo (27.2 kilometers)
  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (27.9 kilometers)
  • Dartmoor Zoological Park (34.9 kilometers)

National Trust

  • Lydford Gorge (8.6 kilometers)
  • Lawrence House (13.2 kilometers)
