With stunning views towards both the Atlantic coast and Dartmoor, Rewilding Coombeshead in West Devon is a sustainable site with spacious mown pitches on a flat field within a 400-acre (the name may have given you a clue here) rewilding site. If you’d like to sleep under the stars in a landscape alive with once-endangered wildlife, then this is your chance. Facilities at this peaceful spot have been designed for convenience: there’s a covered campsite kitchen with a two-ring gas stove, sinks with drinking water and picnic benches. Next door is a barn with a lounge area, games to borrow, seating and tables; you can also cook pizza in the woodfired oven and stay cosy on chillier days around the brazier. There’s hardstanding car parking nearby and wheelbarrows for taking your camping gear to the pitches. Practical facilities stretch to flushing toilets, gas-heated showers in shower sheds (hot water guaranteed), drinking water, a freezer for ice packs and charging facilities. Once installed on your pitch, wander the Wild Garden or head for the viewing platform to watch for the wild cattle, water buffalo and Exmoor ponies that graze freely in the fields. If you’d like to learn more about the burgeoning wildlife on site, book tours such as beaver watching and wild walks led by expert ecologists – you may be lucky enough to spot water voles, beavers, white storks, turtle doves and wild cats.

Liked The site had a relaxed, chilled out vibe. Lots of opportunities to explore the project, including generous gratis tours.
The games barn was a welcome area, especially when it rained. Camp kitchen was convenient. Showers were toasty hot. Staff were delightful. A perfect place to unplug, ground, and just listen.

Liked Only stayed one night and did not arrive on a day to do any of the guided activities but had a great time. A very peaceful site with simple but nice services. Then the added treat of seeing a wild barn owl, water buffalo and other species ready for rewilding. Pizza oven was also an added treat.

Liked Loved the location and set up of Coombeshead. The camping area surrounded by long grass. The showers and toilets were great.

Being right next to the area where the water buffalo, bulls and wild ponies were was incredible.

The large barn with pizza oven, sofa area and kids games was brilliant.

Liked I stayed here for two nights and a rest day on a long-distance cycling trip. Rewilding Coombeshead is by far one of the best campsites I've ever stayed at. Kim and the staff are lovely and really look after you. There are options for vans, tents and glamping; a well-equipped campers' kitchen; a barn with sofas, a piano, and games; and the best part is that it the rewilding isn't just a name they have chosen - they genuinely are rewilding the land and native species, and you can book talks and activities, such as going to see the beavers they have rewilded! The site is also in a fantastic location - somewhere you can really relax. I visited just after they had had their annual conference about rewilding and I will definitely be booking to go next year. I will also definitely book this site for a camping trip in the future.

Liked Absolutely perfect site for us, the feeling of wild camping but if you need it nice amenities on hand. Very friendly and welcoming, just a shame we only had the one night to stay as we were committed to going elsewhere.

It was very quiet, the pitches are nicely spaced a we couldn't fault it.
