  • Glamp on a working farm site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Rambler’s paradise: long-distance trails within 10 minutes’ drive
  • Half an hour from beaches and Plymouth city centre
Looking to stay somewhere you can glamp in nature, close to some top-notch walking routes and with easy access to urban areas? Hmm, doesn’t ring a bell. Just kidding… at Harford Glamping Dartmoor National Park, a family-friendly glampsite on a working farm, less than 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Ivybridge in Devon, you can stay in a luxe bell tent and still be less than an hour from tons of fab things to do. Harford Glamping is inside the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park, where you can poke around tiny traditional villages or pursue more active options like watersports, climbing, hiking and biking. Get your explorer’s hat on for the miles of bridleways, old byways and moorland routes around the Park – follow Erme-Plym and Two Moors Way trails (starting in Ivybridge) to explore the area and join up with longer routes. Once your legs start complaining, rest up in your luxury space back on site and build up strength for your next day’s adventuring – how else but with oodles of food? You can grill up some goodies on the barbecue (there’s a supermarket in Ivybridge) or venture off-site for a table (and meal) at one of the restaurants within 15 minutes of Harford Glamping. Relax in the evenings on your private deck, or have a classic camping moment by telling ghost stories (or just chatting, whatever) around the campfire – just don’t get spooked when Rex spots something you can’t.

Local attractions

Harford Glamping Dartmoor National Park is a top pick for anyone who wants to get up close with the animal kingdom. Start 20 minutes’ drive away with Dartmoor Zoo – the real-life subject of the We Bought a Zoo book and film – for big cats, monkeys, snakes and loads more from around the world, head to the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth to dive beneath the waves (metaphorically), or sign up for some pony trekking from one of the companies nearby. Depending on the weather, you might have a day or two of seeking shelter from the elements. Where better than in some stately piles? Within 45 minutes of Harford Glamping, you’ve got the fab Saltram House, Buckfast Abbey, Compton Castle, Bradley and Cotehele – all well worth a visit. If you’ve got kids in tow, they might like a break from musty old houses, so treat them to a day at the beach – Sandy Cove is half an hour from the site, and is a top spot for swimming and playing in the sand. If that’s not their speed, make your way to the rides and activities at River Dart Country Park or Crealy Adventure Park instead.
