  • Family-run, family-oriented site a short walk from Watermouth Bay
  • A 10-minute drive to Ilfracombe; 25 minutes to Woolacombe beach
  • On-site shop with maps available; access to the South West Coast Path
Everyone in… it’s time for a beach break on the edge of Exmoor National Park. From Watermouth Valley Camping Park, a five-minute walk will get you to Watermouth Bay, where there’s fabulous rock fishing and spectacular coastal walks. That’s not all, believe it or not. The Victorian town of Ilfracombe is 10 minutes’ drive away and surfing beaches such as Woolacombe beach (25 minutes’ drive) and Croyde beach (35 minutes) are also within driving distance. Further on, characterful Lynton and Lynmouth (half an hour) can be found too. Of course, the site is right on the South West Coast Path around North Devon, so it’s a very wise base for hiking fans (just pick up a map of the local area from the site’s shop). What about Watermouth Valley Camping Park itself? Well, the family-run, dog-friendly site has sea views and a sheltered valley where guests can relax and take in the scenery. There’s a children’s adventure playground for kids to let off steam, a handy on-site shop and a modern, clean amenities block with hot showers and electric points for hair dryers, straighteners and razors. The site gets very popular with families during the school summer holidays (May through to September), but at other times, it’s quiet and peaceful and attracts couples and solo travellers.

What customers say

Popular, well-kept site with great sea views & coastal path access. Praised for spacious pitches, clean facilities, friendly staff, and food/bar. Great for exploring. Some noted sloping pitches, road/venue noise. Steep steps to beach; Broadsands Beach was closed due to landslide.

Valley primitive grass campsite

Liked Beautiful view overlooking the sea. Large well maintained pitch.
Close to the pub & on site bar

Disliked The toilet near the Ocean view field were too small for the number of people camping in that area, they were dirty and didn’t match with the same standard as the other facilities

Valley powered grass campsite

Liked Well maintained site, with spacious pitches. In our eyes we had the perfect pitch! Great amenities with plenty of showers, toilets, hairdryer, washing up and laundry facilities.
They have a bar and food options every night (apart from Thursdays for food) which looked great - we didn’t have the opportunity to sample but would’ve if we had the chance.
There’s also a pub 2 minute walk away which was lovely.
Would definitely come back!

Valley powered grass campsite

Liked We arrived quite late but having informed reception that we would be late, they were very accommodating and the map of the site provided was very clear and useful.
Our pitch was a good size and we had a lovely view of the sheep and goats, who were not noisy at all!
There is an exercise field for dogs and dogs are welcomed anywhere as long as they are on a lead. Our dogs really enjoyed their stay.
The site is in a really good location for sightseeing, you can easily walk to Ilfracombe or Combe Martin and the South West Coast Path. We used the path a couple of days and it is well signposted. There are many coves nearby to explore, the view from the top of the site over the water and the headlands is spectacular.
All the staff were so friendly and helpful, the entire site is kept immaculate and both the toilets and showers were always clean.
The shop is well stocked, we needed a few bits and it was great to get a hot drink in the morning.
Every night they have a different type of cuisine on offer and the food is excellent, there's also a bar and plenty of seating around that area, it was nice to sit and chill while people watching.
We had a truly wonderful, peaceful break and were sorry to leave. But we will most definitely be back!

Disliked Nothing!

Liked Location was great, had a view of the sea. Very good facilities. Food kiosk and bar were a bonus. Excellent pizzas. Cost average for good campsites these days. Would definitely return but only out of school holidays.

Valley powered grass campsite

Liked Excellent site, friendly staff, very clean and plenty of showers , huge pitches

Disliked Slightly disappointed to find the access to the beach was closed due to a landslide last year and no date for reopening from Devon Council but no mention of this on their Web site

From the manager: Thank you for the kind words, means a lot to us as a family.

We too are awaiting Devon County Council to provide an update on the beach. I have added their details to our website so do please contact them.

Would love to stay here again in future!

Allocated powered grass campsite (sea view)

Liked We booked a seaview spot and the view was incredible. Toilets, showered and facilities were all clean and great. Really liked that we could order food by the bar in the evenings if needed.

Disliked It would be handy if the shop opened earlier than 8:30 for some fresh milk - but it's not a biggy!

Valley powered grass campsite

Liked The whole site was very well laid out, nice touches such as the food stall and gin bar on site with the prices for items from those stalls very reasonably priced. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Disliked We decided to leave a day early as several families pitched up next to us. The children where very well behaved but the adults where very load with no self awareness, it disturbed the quite atmosphere we had experienced earlier in the week.

Local attractions

Time to tick off the North Devon coves and harbours? Start with splendid Combe Martin (five minutes’ drive), a seaside resort with a sheltered cove for peaceful days on the sand. Surfers might want to slide on over to Saunton Sands (half an hour), while those seeking scenic clifftop hikes will get on well with the Valley of Rocks’ (35 minutes) wild goats and sea views. Take off on a fishing trip or a sea safari from Ilfracombe Harbour (10 minutes). Lundy Island is one of the most popular tour spots for such boat trips. There’s a working lifeboat station in the harbour too if that sort of stuff entertains you. Once you’ve checked out the lifeboats, turn back time a little with a trip to Arlington Court (20 minutes), a National Trust site with a Regency house and a carriage museum. Or perhaps all the way back to the time of dinosaurs? Kids are likely to love the life-sized dino models at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (10 minutes) and its zoo and fossil museum.
