  • Peaceful coastal site in Exmoor National Park with sea views
  • Combe Martin and Ilfracombe within a 10-minute drive
  • Private footpath to pub, coast path and Watermouth Castle
If you like a sea view, find it handy to be able to get out and about without driving and are rather partial to a freshly baked pastry, you should be pretty pleased with the offerings at Little Meadow Caravan and Camping Site. This small and quiet site is up on the north Devon coast within Exmoor National Park, and one of its top selling points is the fact that it’s got gorgeous sweeping views over the Bristol Channel in one direction and Exmoor’s Hangman Hills in the other. The grounds have been cleverly terraced to make the most of that coastal outlook, and the views have been boosted further with flower-filled borders all around. Getting out to explore the area is easily done here – the site is accessed from the A399 for drivers and there’s also a handy bus stop a couple of minutes’ walk away for jaunts to places like Ilfracombe and Combe Martin. Meanwhile, a private 500-metre footpath leads from the site to Watermouth Castle, where crossing the road takes you on to the South West Coast Path. Back on site, you’ll be staying in a peaceful spot with abundant wildlife – keep your eyes peeling for badgers, rabbits, buzzards and sea birds, as well as porpoises out at sea. There’s a good list of useful facilities too, including a play area, a dog park, a laundry room and a local information point as well as men’s and women’s bathroom facilities. And those pastries? Freshly baked croissants and baguettes are available on site every morning, and the shop stocks locally sourced jams, meats and drinks. Barbecues are permitted, and there’s a pub half a mile away.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We had such a wonderful stay at Little Meadow Campsite in Ilfracombe! The campsite is absolutely beautiful, with stunning scenic views overlooking the sea that made our whole trip feel so peaceful and relaxing. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived, which really added to the experience.

We were given plenty of space for our tent, which made everything feel comfortable and private. It was also fantastic how accommodating the site was for both our dog and our child. It truly felt like a family-friendly campsite where everyone was welcome.

The washing facilities and toilets were spotless and very well maintained, and having sea views from them was such a lovely touch! There’s also a great little farm shop on site stocked with essentials and delicious locally sourced food, which we really appreciated.

Hiring a fire pit for the evening made the stay even more special, sitting out at night enjoying the views and atmosphere was the perfect end to our days. We honestly couldn’t fault our stay and would highly recommend Little Meadow to anyone looking for a relaxing, scenic, and welcoming campsite in North Devon. We’ll definitely be returning!

Disliked Having to go home.

Liked Everything. Beautiful campsite. Our pitch was amazing, so much privacy with awesome views. Location is stunning. Clean. Well-maintained. Owners and staff were so helpful. Phone reception wasn't good but hey! That gave us even more peace. Wifi was hit and miss but fine if you went near the shop.

Liked This was a wonderful little campsite - quiet, intimate, with beautiful views, and a gorgeous little shop selling farm produce and freshly baked croissants every morning. The facilities were tidy and clean. The location was perfect - just a few minutes walk from Watermouth Harbour. The nearest coffee shop is in the Harbour, just a few minutes walk away, and there is also a lovely pub within easy walking distance. An absolutely wonderful place to stay - we will be back!

Primitive grass tent campsite (motorcyclist, adults only, no cars)

Liked Great little campsite, well organised, with tiered pitches that hold 5-6 spots per tier - so it feels like one has a bit of privacy.

It’s also close to the coastal path, so you can walk right out for a days hike.

Facilities were clean and frequently maintained, and the water was nice and hot.

Staff were very friendly.

Extremely well priced for motorcycle touring.

Disliked Nothing at all. If riding by motorbike, the road up the tiers can be a little daunting as it’s not paved.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked A lovely simple campsite. I find some campsites can be quite overbearing but we were left to find out our own pitch and weren’t checked on throughout, which I really appreciate. The facilities were clean and it was actually a joy to wash up with the beautiful views ahead. You get a great view from wherever your pitched, we were lucky to have our little section (pitch 8) to ourselves. It felt very safe to let our little ones explore. We even had two ducks visit us daily which the kids loved. It’s a great base for exploring the area, particularly the castle next door! We will defintely be returning.

Route directions

Satnav is not the most reliable way to find this site; please use these instructions instead. The entrance is best approached from the Ilfracombe direction due to a sharp turn into the driveway when approaching from Combe Martin, which can be very difficult for anyone in a large campervan or motorhome or towing a caravan or trailer. If you arrive from Combe Martin you can turn around in the Hele Bay Garage which is a mile along the road. The driveway signed Lydford Farm is NOT the entrance to the campsite. If you are towing a caravan please let the site know in advance if you are driving a four-wheel drive car. Little Meadow is on the 301 bus route.
